From The Abyss |
|
Those who have spent much time with action RPGs in the mold of Secret of Mana should find the gameplay in From the Abyss at least somewhat familiar. You choose from among a selection of class-based characters and venture into a world of randomized levels and real-time combat. A top-down angle gives you a view of the 16-bit-era visuals, which look nice alongside some of the more elaborate spell effects. [GameSpot]

It's got lots of dungeons to explore, tons of items to equip, and some pretty cool boss fights. It missed a good opportunity by not letting you progress through the story in co-op mode, but it's still a fun single-player experience.

Sad to say, From the Abyss is an extremely unremarkable game through-and-through. From the visual style and plot to the game mechanics, it's all been done before in some form or another. The good news in all of this is the game still offers a good time for fans of the genre.

There aren’t enough carrots dangled under your nose to keep you crawling through the monotony of randomly generated dungeons, and the text-based.
