[Playstation Network] The swashbuckling action in Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty begins one year following the intense ending in Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. Ratchet's desperate search for Clank resumes with a bang as he finds himself engulfed in ship-board combat -- only to be cast adrift and washed up on the shores of a remote island on the planet Merdegraw. Our Lombax hero must overcome life-threatening challenges, encounter hostile new alien races and even form an allegiance with dreaded Captain Slag’s first mate, Rusty Pete. All in the pursuit of clues that lead Ratchet to the treasure of Captain Angstrom Darkwater, Slag's former commander and keeper of the only known link to the mysterious Zoni: the Fulcrum Star. Push, pull, and manipulate objects as you solve various puzzles using Ratchet's new wrench. New Light/Dark gameplay: Illuminate dark areas and use your wits to survive encounters with enemies that live in the dark. New Pirate Puzzles: Mix brew, manipulate shadows, and play tunes to find hidden booty. [SCEA]

For those who loved the last game, it's a brilliant treat; a chance for one last blast while we wait for a full-blown sequel. For newcomers it's an inexpensive way to discover what they've been missing out on. [Oct 2008, p.88]

Compared to some other PSN titles it doesn't offer the same replay value, but it more than makes up for this in production values and overall quality.

Insomniac has stripped away every inch of slack, delivering a consistently entertaining title where platforming nestles tightly against puzzle solving and hugs shooting sections. [Oct 2008, p.102]

Ratchet and Clank Future: Quest for Booty is like Tools of Destruction divided by four. It's a fourth the length and a fourth the price, but it's almost as brilliant as its predecessor, and that's saying something.

The visuals and sound are on the same level as Destruction, while the action-oriented gameplay keeps up the pace. There's nothing of long-term value, no Captain Quark minigames or arena missions, but the journey is worth it.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty is certainly up to par for what the previous games have given us in the past, but in a much smaller scale at about three hours to beat, give or take some time depending on your Ratchet experience.

Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty is fresh and funny entertainment that the whole family can enjoy this summer. Insomniac Games achieved an action spectacle full of acrobatic jumps and simple puzzle solving. Three hours of adventures at its best for an adequate price.

The game is shallow, but focused, and Insomniac's aim is clear: short, sweet, episodic content - but Quest for Booty gives the player the sense that Ratchet just isn't meant for episodic styling.

Quest for Booty's a fine addition to the Ratchet & Clank world, but what should've been a love letter to fans ends up serving better as a taste of what outsiders are missing -- and, as a fan, that makes me just a little bit sad.

As far as a downloadable episode goes, Ratchet and Clank: Quest for Booty serves its purpose extremely well. The experience is fun, fast and furious throughout the four hours that it lasts and fans will definitely get a kick out of seeing how the story has progressed.

Quest for Booty has been designed as a quick four-hour experience and it feels shortchanged because of it. Though its shooting and platforming sequences are fun and of high production, it still seems like there's something missing.

Though Quest for Booty, again, isn't a bad game, it's not a good Ratchet game, and in the end that makes for a slightly disappointing and possibly even overpriced offering. With zero replay value and only a few new tricks, this Quest isn't worth taking.

Quest for Booty is a solid, funny little platform game with good camerawork and controls so long established that their pristine execution scarcely warrants mention, but it feels so much like a regular Ratchet & Clank game that it's jarring to discover it ends so quickly, leaving us to damn it over and over again with faint praise.

It’s really a question of quality over quantity, and though some may balk at the £9.99 price tag for such a short non replayable experience, the actual gameplay reminds us all how platforming should be fun.

At four hours long, Quest For Booty doesn’t outstay its welcome, but it’s devoid of ambition, as is customary with the series. Ratchet & Clank is beginning to feel like a licensed franchise, but without the licence.

Sandy M. gave it a6:
Quest for Booty is a shallow extension of Tools of Destruction. The core of what makes the Ratchet and Clank games great is still there and still I recommend this for any R&C; fan. Where old R&C; fans will be disappointed is there is very little gameplay beyond the first play through and said gameplay is very linear. There are almost no hidden collectibles besides a few weapon power-ups. Gone is the ability to revisit levels to find hidden bolts or earn skill points.

Aaro S gave it a10:
I like it more than Tools of Destruction and Tool of Destruction was also my game of 2007. Gameplay is AWESOME and the new gameplay elements fit perfectly with the theme. Graphics are amazing once again and music is better than before. You can choose your difficulty level between easy and hard. When you have beaten the game you can do it again and find extra weapon upgrades. Needs only 2.3GB in USA and 3.2 in Europe. Presentation: 9.6 Design: 9.3 Gameplay: 9.7 Replay: 9.0 Overall: 9.5

David C. gave it a7:
Wow this game was short. i expected a lot more out of Insomniac for this series. The game looks great and is always enjoyable, but the puzzles were too simple and the diversity (even for a Ratchet and Clank game) was minimal. Maybe $10!

Gordo J. gave it a1:
I played this at a friend's house. It seemed somehow shallow and empty. I know it's just a 3 hour game, but it was not fun the way the other R&C;'s are.

Aaron L. gave it a9:
Gameplay is great, Platforming, Puzzles and Beating up the bad guys! It may be short, but its a great addition to the series of Ratchet and Clank.

Aaron C. gave it a9:
Great Game! Always fun to play, despite the shortness of the game, overall It is just like the other games of the series only shorter..

Andy P. gave it an8:
A solid outing for the lombax, but it doesn't quite match the full game in terms of enjoyment. Quest for booty is more platform oriented than running and gunning oriented. The game does look just as nice as ToD. However the game doesn't translate well into a 4 hour downloadable game compared to a full game. Overall not a bad game and very pleasing at places, but will not fill your apatite for ratchet and clank. I give this 7.5 (fans of the series will also enjoy the ending).
