[-]DD is 6 months and started solids abut 1 week and a half ago. It is very hard to feed her bc she always keeps sucking her fingers. She won't play with toy. As soon as food goes in her mouth so does the fingers. Why??? Eachtime I give a spoonfull I have really pull to get her fingers out. WHY again?
3 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]She needs to learn how to eat, just like anything else she does. Babies love fingers or anything else in the mouth. Bazelton's book has an excellent section on teaching your child how to eat solids. Let them hold another spoon while you are feeding them. Don't stop them from putting the 2nd spoon in their mouth or their fingers, etc. Check it out.

[-]pg w/#3 which will be last one. Did not save cord blood before (expense, unsure of the whole thing) -now I am wondering if we would be shooting ourselves in the foot if we did not -knowing this is the last chance. Any thoughts?
7 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]Hopefully, there's never a need for the blood, but storing it is a form of health insurance and we didn't want to regret our decision down the road. We compared ViaCord and CBR and ended up selecting CBR. I called them with a list of questions and I liked their answers. CBR was our OB's recommendation as well. We initially thought cord blood banking was out of our price range, but we set up a gift registry at CBR and let our family and friends help defray the expense by contributing. Also used the $250 coupon from http://cord-blood-banking-coupon.com
[ Reply | Options ]pg with #1 and thinking about it.... how much does it cost if you used a $250 coupon? is it per month, per year, or a flat rate? tia!
[ Reply | Options ]In answer to the question about how much cord blood banking costs, here's the cost breakdown for CBR (Cord Blood Registry) which we chose based on a recommendation from our OBGYN. $1625 one-time collection & processing fee (after using $250 coupon from http://cord-blood-banking-coupon.com ) $150 courier fee $125 first year storage fee Plus, we set up an online gift registry through CBR so family and friends can contribute and help with the expense. Storage is $125 per year after that. Other ways to bring the cost down: Save another $400 if you prepay 18 years of annual fees. Save another $125 (via a free year of storage) for every friend you refer that also banks with CBR.

[-]Am I a total bitch? DH got me a ring for my 40th birthday and I really don't like it. He's never gotten me a piece of jewelry I didn't totally love before. I happen to know it was a last minute purchase (the day of my birthday). Jeweler is a close friend, so returning is not a problem. This morning when he asked me if I liked it, i was honest and told him I didn't. Should I have just sucked it up and gotten it sized and worn it?
16 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]-
totally agree. my DH is really pleased when he guesses right, but when he doesn't, I tell him how much I love that he chose a gift but that I think I want to exchange. he just wants it to be something I want to wear. it's still from him if I exchange, and he goes with me to help pick out
[ Reply | Options ]
a dh who almost always nails the gift: You were right. Personal taste is personal taste. (I wouldn't make it about the last minute thing.) I bought my wife a pair of earrings a while back which I didn't like but were "just her style." She never wore them. When I asked why she said she didn't like them. If she had been honest at the time I could have returned them and started from scratch (or she could have and gotten something which was actually "just her style.")
[ Reply | Options ]I mention the last minute thing only because I sort of sensed that he knew it wasn't really me when he gave it to me. Seemed hesitant somehow.
[ Reply | Options ]FWIW- It doesn't matter if I go a week before or a day before, I very rarely spend more than one day shopping for these kinds of things. (Now I'll spend six months deciding which table saw, but that is different.) -or
[ Reply | Options ]I think what I'm getting at is that he didn't put a lot of thought into it. Didn't get me anything, ran to the jewelers that day, picked this out because it was all he saw and kind of knew it wasn't great. He's bought me many wonderful pieces of jewelry before and I've loved every single one. Anyway, I guess it doesn't matter. I feel confident it wasn't an awful thing to do.

DH here says definitely go back with him to get one you like. We have no idea what we're doing with jewelry, and would be horrified if you wore something you didn't like just so as not to hurt our feelings. We have no feelings on jewelry selection, because we take no pride in our ability to do it, and in fact are suspicious of any guy who DOES have strong opinions on such.

[-]last month i had my hair straightened, and he gave me the shampoo/conditioner. hate to spend so much money on refills. know any non sodium shampoos?
12 replies [ Reply | Watch | Options ]I get my hair straightened and just buy "good" shampoos at the salons. have been doing it for years and it always looks shiny. also use burt's bees and other natural products. right now using Nigelle that I bought after the process this time.
[ Reply | Options ]What type of straightening do you do? What is your morning hair styling routine like?
[ Reply | Options ]not sure what brand. it's a new one this time but still "japanese." wash and blow dry with a brush. very easy.
[ Reply | Options ]-
$300 to $400 depending on level of person and prices going up now. I get it done about every 10 months on average since 2002 or 2003.
[ Reply | Options ]which shampoo do you use? Are there any drug store brands that won't deactivate the treatment?
[ Reply | Options ]I really don't want to give you bad advice; it's a huge investment so it's not worth risking it imo. I have used most brands from whole foods, some drug store brands (but they are supposed to be bad because of the ph levels I think) and salon brands like Graham Webb (I think), Nigelle, and Crede. I also use L'occitane Angelica.

[-]Any recommendations for a beige color from Benjamin Moore paints for the Master Bedroom? We live in the city and obviously want to make sure room looks as big as possible. Also, the apartment is on the market, so color should be pleasing to potential buyers. I am running out of time and can't make a decision since swatch tends to look different than actual color on walls.
