Posted at 10:41pm on Jun. 29, 2008 The Ability To Self-Correct Is One Of The Best Things About The Blogosphere . . .

By Pejman Yousefzadeh

So let's see if some of the usual suspects Patterico names self-correct their statements concerning John McCain and pumping gas. I expect next to nothing from Think Progress in terms of honesty regarding this issue and John Cole will likely disappoint at the end. That leaves Sullivan and Joyner to redeem my faith in Blogospheric honesty.

Come on, guys. Don't let me down.

By Pejman Yousefzadeh

I see that Wesley Clark is criticizing John McCain because he says that the Senator doesn't have any executive experience and that in wartime, he didn't command "a wartime squadron" or order "the bombs to fall."

One searches the news report in vain for any claims that Senator Clinton--who Clark initially supported--had executive experience, commanded "a wartime squadron" or was responsible for ordering "the bombs to fall." One searches in vain as well for similar observations concerning Senator Obama. Indeed, one cannot help but wonder why Wesley Clark would make the arguments he makes about Senator McCain, given that they apply with a hundred times more force--at least!--to Senator Obama.

Posted at 9:25pm on Jun. 29, 2008 Barack Obama's ACORN Connection

By Vladimir

The defeat that stings the worst is when you feel like you've been beaten at your own game. The narrow defeats of the Presidential elections of 2000 and 2004 have energized the lunatic base of the Democratic Party. Images of Diebold-rigged voting machines, minority voter intimidation and The Political Anachronism That Is the Electoral College have haunted the activists' dreams for eight years. We can expect the Dems to pull out all the stops to make sure it doesn't happen in 2008.

One need not look to the Book of Revelation to find reason to be troubled by the presumptive Democratic nominee. The "Unholy Trinity" -- Barack Obama, Chicago politics and the radical "community development" organization that goes by the acronym ACORN -- should be troubling enough.

Posted at 2:58pm on Jun. 29, 2008 Slightly cheesy: but then, so is Senator Obama.

Nice to see that they're as unimpressed with the man himself as I am.

By the way: note that I said "man" in the subtitle, not "election." The difference is one of those "small, yet profound" things.

PS: Oh, yes, rest assured that I'll be happy to go after the junior Senator from Illinois on matters of substance. Well, just as soon as he ever does anything substantial.

Ed Morrissey wants to know if Obama's reversals are hurting him. Judging by the poll results, I'd say that's a big yep.

Posted at 11:03am on Jun. 29, 2008 Democrats On Cornyn: "Better To Look Crooked Than Look Silly"

By haystack

You can't make stuff like this up people...

The DSCC, among the many other Liberal self-important elitists out there, has their undies all in a bundle because they don't "get" Cowboy humor. Being high and mighty elitists precludes any genuine understanding of the "country" culture, or a decent appreciation for a fine Stetson, or even a shiny pair of bonny-new Tony LLama's for that matter....just ask Obama where that God and Guns remark got him. NOR do they have any ability to comprehend why anyone would poke a little fun at himself; taking one's self too seriously ALL the time is a founding principle for being a Democrat you see...

So, what does the pretty little city boy Democrat Media Consultant named Dean Rindy have to say about the Cornyn "flap" that isn't?

"This is a disaster for John Cornyn, because it just makes him look silly," said Democratic media consultant Dean Rindy. "They don't stop to realize Cornyn's not the Marlboro man. He's a plump, pasty politician in cowboy drag."
[...]
"There's nothing worse than looking foolish. Better to look crooked than to look silly. People want a strong US Senator. Not a fake cowboy," Rindy said.

Rindy wouldn't know a real Cowboy if he took a spit of dip to the forehead from one...and it's no real surprise to hear a Democrat suggest looking crooked is a good thing either...but really now-can the little kiddies on the left lighten up a little?

More below the fold...

Posted at 7:52am on Jun. 29, 2008 Did Harvard Prepare Dr Obama For Dem Family Quarrels?

By streetwise

The Doctors Crane- Harvard didn't prepare them, either!

Descriptive text here

American presidential elections tend to be a study in scandal for ideological liberals and not a few movement conservatives. The tidy shelves of propositional politics give way under the reality of the nature of the office. We have a BIG government that requires executive skill to manage, and whose services the electorate is not willing to do without. We have national interests that people expect to be protected, and a superpower’s responsibilities. We share the planet with other powers that are not disposed to accept our world view.

You know, I have *no idea* whether or not that was the intent.

We're in Here Be Dragons territory now, folks, and it isn't even July yet. Via Hot Air Headlines, take a gander:

Obama Supporters Take His Middle Name as Their Own

Emily Nordling has never met a Muslim, at least not to her knowledge. But this spring, Ms. Nordling, a 19-year-old student from Fort Thomas, Ky., gave herself a new middle name on Facebook.com, mimicking her boyfriend and shocking her father.

“Emily Hussein Nordling,” her entry now reads.

With her decision, she joined a growing band of supporters of Senator Barack Obama, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, who are expressing solidarity with him by informally adopting his middle name.

Because - as all men know - nothing says "normal, mainstream behavior" like "symbolically taking on the middle name of your guru."

Two Prominent NH Dems Join Team McCain

At a time when Senator Obama is trying to rally his party to his side, he loses two key New Hampshire Democrats to team McCain. Jim McConaha and Valery Mitchell have joined Senator McCain’s campaign to serve as co-chairs of “Democrats for McCain”. From the press release:

By Pejman Yousefzadeh

. . . You'd like to think that after 17 months of angst over its presidential nomination, the Democrats would not wind up with the exact same candidate they started out with, except for a different gender and a higher quotient of panache.

I am not going to excerpt from this piece because this site likes to remain family-friendly. But click through and you will see how Bill Clinton's . . . um . . . gluteus may figure in efforts to bring about unity in the Democratic party.

The nomination contest may be over. But the fun may be just beginning.

Posted at 4:03pm on Jun. 28, 2008 John McCain's top priority

By cwilson

Is it defending the country against islamofascist terrorism?
No.
Is it reining in the out-of-control spending?
No.
Is it blocking the continual usurpation of the principle of self-government by four liberals in black robes and Anthony Kennedy's mood swings?
No.

This, from his Q/A during his appearance at NALEAO this morning, is John McCain's top priority:

Posted at 9:19am on Jun. 28, 2008 Dueling Party philosophies on display.

Well, you can't say that it's not iconic this go-round.

By Moe Lane

It's my personal opinion that the two Hot Air pieces linked below do a very good job of backing up an aphorism about the two parties that I've been working on for a while now:

The difference between the Republicans and Democrats can be summed up neatly:

When a Republican says, "This is what I believe in," the subtext is "Don't like that? Deal."*

When a Democrat says "This is what I believe in," the subtext is "Don't like that? We can make you a better deal."**

Well, H.L. Mencken Mark Twain*** it isn't, but you get the point.

Moe Lane

PS: And no, there are no alternatives: this isn't Italy, or even the United Kingdom. For that matter, judging from the failure of third parties to get any kind of meaningful foothold in the American political system the majority of the population is apparently perfectly fine with watching the base of both parties suffer.
