1998 Hurricane Season Wrap-Up
Information about hurricanes of the North Atlantic, Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico in 1998, with satellite images of Hurricanes Georges, Bonnie, Ivan, Jeanne and Karl. Wind speeds and death tolls are given for tropical storms and hurricanes throughout the year.
Author: US Department of Commerce National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
     Subjects: hurricanes
     DeweyClass: 551.552
CLASS: Comprehensive Array-data Stweardship System
An electronic library of NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration) environmental data. It provides capabilities for finding and obtaining NOAA and US Department of Defense (DoD) Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite (POES) data, NOAA's Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite (GOES) data, and derived data.
Author: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
     Subjects: meteorology, satellites
     DeweyClass: 551.5
GOES: Geosynchronous Operational Environmental Satellite
Collection of satellite pictures and movies of recent major events such as hurricanes and volcanoes.
     Author: NASA
     Subjects: hurricanes, satellites, volcanoes
     DeweyClass: 551.6
Great Globe Gallery
Extensive collection of different views of the Earth with maps, globes, satellite images, artistic visions, and more, also includes time zones.
     Author: Zwolinski, Zbigniew
     Subjects: earth observation
     DeweyClass: 910.02
Microsoft Terraserver
Repository of aerial photographs and satellite images of the earth which can be viewed online.
     Author: Microsoft Corporation
     Subjects: earth observation
     DeweyClass: 910.02
NASA Earth Observatory
Monitors regional and global changes on Earth and explores the causes and effects of climactic and environmental change through the use of satellite data. Includes sections on climate and biosphere monitoring, earth science, tropical cyclone and hurricane research, and an Observation Deck featuring a data chart showing all environmental measurements displayed by the Earth Observatory. Each section contains an illustrated summary of related research with links to further information and colour satellite images.
     Author: NASA
Subjects: climatology, earth observation, earth science research, geophysics
     DeweyClass: 525
NASA SeaWIFS Project
The Sea-Viewing Wide Field-of-View Sensor Project aims to understand the earth's behaviour and evolution by looking at it from space, and to gather quantitative data on global ocean bio-optical properties. Colour satellite images of plankton blooms, chlorophyll concentrations, coral reefs, and hurricanes are available, as well as technical reports and a teacher's section.
Author: Feldman, Gene Carl, NASA Goddard Space Flight Center
Subjects: coral reefs, earth observation, hurricanes, oceanographic data, plankton
     DeweyClass: 551.1
National Atlas of the United States
Interactive maps of the United States, allowing the user to roam across Amerca and zoom in on selected areas.
     Author: United States Geological Survey
Subjects: maps of the united states
     DeweyClass: 912.73
National Snow and Ice Data Center
Data and images on snow and ice, and their importance to the Earth's system, such as the Global Annual Freezing and Thawing Indices. Includes topics such as glaciers, hydrology, ice cores, icebergs, ocean, remote sensing data, satellite imagery and sea ice, and a searchable data catalogue which can also be browsed by title and subject.
Author: National Snow and Ice Data Center, University of Colorado
     Subjects: climatology, hydrology

Satellite Remote Sensing and Archaeology
Satellite images of archaeological features from around the world accompanied by a collection of software resources and a bibliography of works relating to the application of satellite remote sensing to archaeology.
     Author: Fowler, Martin, J. F.
     Subjects: world archaeology
     DeweyClass: 930
Sea Surface Temperature Satellite Image Archive
Archive of sea surface temperature satellite images processed by Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) data from NOAA satellites. The images depict sea surface temperature.
     Author: University of Rhode Island
     Subjects: oceanography research
     DeweyClass: 551.4
SkyView Virtual Observatory
Collection of images of specific portions of the night sky, searchable by coordinates, scale, and orientation via non-astronomer, basic, advanced, and Java interfaces. Incorporates a dictionary for those with minimul knowledge of astronomy.
     Author: NASA
     Subjects: astronomy research, space observation
     DeweyClass: 522
Terra: The EOS Flagship
Daily image reports from Terra, a NASA satellite launched to investigate interrelationships in the Earth system between land, ocean, atmosphere, and life. Data gathered will enable future climate changes to be predicted, allowing us to prepare effectively for the future.
     Author: NASA
     Subjects: earth observation
     DeweyClass: 525
Tour Canada from Space
Collection of satellite images depicting Canadian locations as seen from space. Each entry is accompanied by information about corresponding maps and tutorial sections to aid interpretation of images shown. Areas covered include Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland.
