Intranet as a Learning Tool: A Preliminary Study
Article which presents the findings of a study conducted to examine the amount, type, and quality of leaning in an undergraduate introductory history course when presented to three different groups of participants, one using traditionally presented course materials (book form), another using the same materials presented on computer screen, and the third using an ergonomically designed Intranet site. Results showed that the amount of historical knowledge acquired was greatest for those using traditional methods, and that the way in which knowledge was acquired was qualitatively different between the groups. Participants preferred learning via traditional methods to screen and Intranet presentations, and those who learnt using computers felt that their learning experience had suffered.
