SFA Vs Radiohead

The funny thing about starting this thread is that there will be loads of Radiohead fans who're probably offended by the idea of even comparing the two groups!

To be fair, I think it's an unanswerable comparison. Radiohead deal with 21st century alienation by reflecting it and promoting a kind of technological spiritualism...

...while SFA deal with it by blowing it out of the water on a wave of psychedelic optimism. I personally prefer the latter :)

SFA

without question

Radiohead have

a love/hate relationship with technology non? I'm sure i've read a bunch of stuff about Thom being scared of technology anyways. SFA are ridiculously good and wrote the funniest lyric ever FRENCH BREAD! but Rdhd must win due to Kid A being pretty much the best thing that exists.

Next Week

A Box Versus 14 Dogs Tied Together thrown off a building attached to a parachute.

dogs

fr'sure

They clearly both have a great collection of records

But I prefer Radiohead. Because of the gloom! :)

good shit man

i've no idea whether it's all bollocks, but i like the gist. More talking about music please DiS

I like them both...

but if i had to choose would go for SFA due to them being a hell of alot cheerier.

In terms of

Consistently making good records, I'd say both are about even. I've enjoyed every album by both SFA and Radiohead.

SFA

SFA

no contest.

Huh?

SFA is my favourite band ever, but I like Radiohead a hell of a lot as well. There's no point comparing such different bands.

SFA are a great band....

but Radiohead are better vocally and dynamically and do things with more conviction. And also better live.

i think

radiohead are a band that i do not want to like but do and sfa are a band that i like to like

Well I like 'em both

but Radiohead have had a way bigger impact on me. Quite simply because I think they are a better band and I prefer their songs

i like that kind of question!

it makes you think more than, say, bob dylan vs neil young...
well, in terms of classic albums, radiohead have:
ok computer
the bends
kid a
in rainbows

sfa have:
radiator
fuzzy logic
and maybe at a push, guerrilla
also, they released one of the greatest singles collections of the last 20 years (songbook).

both terrifically creative bands, but obviously in different ways..

i just think, in terms of consistency and creative growth, radiohead shade it. sfa have kind of run into a stylistic cul-de-sac at the moment (although some of you may differ with me on that one). so radiohead then.

hmm

that's just your opinion of the classic furries albums. don't think the furries have run into a cul de sac any more than radiohead. hey venus and in rainbows went over familiar territory for both bands, but into the night was a different, funk look for the furries.

yeah

you could say that about radiohead, hail to the thief was patchy, and in rainbows didn't really take a drastic new direction so much as refine what radiohead do so well. but i just mean that in rainbows is pretty much an essential album, whereas to be brutally honest about it (and i'm a big fan of the furries) sfa haven't released an essential one yet this millenium (rings around the world was sunk by filler, and phantom power was really good but not quiite a classic. that's just my opinion though, you've got a point about both bands going over familiar territory recently.

two of my favourite bands

and two masters of their craft.

But at no point does their music cross paths which makes any comparison futile.

This is tough.

But...
if you were to ask:
Thom Yorke vs Gruff Rhys.

Gruff, over and over.

??????

who are SFA?....please speak english

have loved

both bands for many years, seen The Radio Heads several times live and always an amazing, pretty emotional experience, seen SFA nigh on 30/40 times in past 10years,again always amazing but for totally different reasons: joyous, 'communal', uplifting, magical and leaves you grinning ear to ear as you bounce home. I probably listen more to SFA as I get older and find I can't handle the overbearing weight of "the society we live in today" (much like OAPs who turn to God when they start to hear The Grim Reaper creeping toward their door) as I watch 'entertaining' telly rather than Panoramamarathons about how crap things are and how THEY control everything.

So, on reflection SFA for everyday joy and I probably do listen to them every day but Them Radio Heads hold a very firm place in my heart. Kid A is their best album btw.

Radiohead no contest

compare these two bands live for starters...

I have to say

I would prefer a Super Furries greatest hits set compared to a Radiohead one

blur

Don't make me choose!

I love both equally, two of the best British bands of the last 10-20 years.

jeez

this is a really tough choice.

strangely enough I only got into SFA in the last year or so, but I've grown to love them.

I'll go with Radiohead...just! (no pun intended)
