I.P. National Headquarters operates through 8 Departments and 11 HQ Units, the latter answering directly to the Commissioner of Police.

Legal Advisor's
Bureau
|
The Bureau represents the
I.P. in every legal agreement or other matter to which the I.P. is a
party; supplies legal opinions to I.P. managers and policy makers;
handles civil suits against the I.P. and its officers, arising from
the performance of policing duties.

Spokesperson's
Office
|
ýAdvises the Commissioner and senior commanders on all external media matters; handles relations with the media; makes and implements publicity policy; provides professional instruction to District spokespersons.

|
Audit and
Accounts Department
|
The Audit and
Accounts Unit handles all the I.P.'s monetary transactions within the
framework of its approved budget and in accordance with the provisions
of the Budgetary Components Act and the directions of the Ministry of
Finance.

Public
Complaints Unit
|
Handles all
complaints from members of the public against serving officers.
|
|
National
Internal Audit Unit
|
Has overall
responsibility to examine and ensure that every I.P. unit carries out
orders and directives and observes proper procedure.

Court
|
Judges cases
against policemen accused of serious lapses of discipline.

Appeals Court
|
Hears appeals
against the judgements of the Disciplinary Court.

Safety Unit
|
Makes and
implements I.P. policy on operational safety, police-officers' road
safety, and safety in the workplace.
