The Deputy Commissioner of Police is the Commissioner's senior assistant and permanent Acting Commissioner.


THE DEPUTY COMMISSIONER'S RESPONSIBILITIES
  To carry out the Commissioner's responsibilities and exercise his powers whenever the Commissioner is not in Israel or, for some other reason, cannot carry out his duties - until the Commissioner returns to Israel or until he resumes his duties.
 To assist the Commissioner to manage, administer and coordinate staff-work at National Headquarters and District level and in the Border Guard.
 At the Commissioner's direction, to manage, administer and coordinate the collaborative work of I.P. staff units and the Ministry of Public Security [the Ministry responsible for the Police, as well as the I.P.'s collaboration with outside agencies, such as the Israel Defense Forces.
 To plan, coordinate, and execute nationwide I.P. projects.
 On behalf of the Commissioner, to take charge of HQ units, e.g. the I.P. Disciplinary Court, the I.P. Court of Appeal, the National Internal Audit Unit, the Public Complaints Unit, and the Operational Safety Unit.
 To collate and take action on the external audit findings of the State Comptroller-General's Office and the Ministry of Public Security.
 To oversee the implementation of recommendations made by the National Internal Audit Unit.
 To oversee the I.P.'s strategic planning process.
 To manage, administer and coordinate appearances by I.P. officers before the Knesset [Israel's parliament].
 To coordinate the handling of all aspects of I.P. officers' foreign travel on I.P. duties.
