Guide to Student Organizations

Welcome to the University of Maryland! Get ready for an exciting life on the College Park campus.  Maryland not only offers a vast academic menu, but extensive co-curricular opportunities as well. Research tells us that students who get involved outside of class do better academically than students who don't! Not only is it likely that you'll learn more, but you'll open up doors to new friendships and amazing experiences.  There is so much more to learn beyond the classroom walls... so get involved! Give yourself the gift of a complete education.

The University of Maryland Guide to Student Organizations is a first step in your path to involvement. You will find a listing of the student organizations that are currently active at the University. The organizations are listed in broad categories. We hope that you will pick out organizations in your interest area and then use the contact information and resource outlets through direct web links and the Office of Campus Programs to find out more about them. If you don't find an organization that matches your interests, we'll help you start a new group.

We hope that this is a helpful tool on your road to involvement. Remember, the key to your success is you!  Take the initiative to jump right in and make the most of your college experience! We'll be happy to offer you the information and support to get involved!

There are hundreds of student organizations on campus.  Get involved! It's a great way to meet some great friends. Listed on this web page are all registered student organizations. Some of them have offices in the Stamp Student Union. For those student organizations that are interested in arranging events, please read the Event Management Handbook. To start a new student group, you will need to read the registration guidelines.

When making decisions about joining groups it is important to consider interests, time commitments, and the requirements of the organization. One resource that may prove helpful in your decision making process is "FRIENDS" are everywhere, a guide to making judgments about groups.
