16 Mar 2006 - Jason Murnane
The AFL Players' Association held its annual general meeting on Wednesday March 15.
AFLPA Executive members Glenn Archer, Daryl Wakelin, Peter Bell and Simon Garlick retired by rotation from the AFLPA's Executive in accordance with Association's rules and we're all re-elected unopposed.
AFLPA CEO Brendon Gale today said, "It's a great sign of the level of player trust and confidence in the AFLPA Executive that the group were re-elected unopposed today. Being a member led organisation, we rely heavily on input from all members, but particularly from our Executive Committee. I'm pleased to say players have enjoyed first class representation from their Executive Committee and I commend each and every Committee member for their work."
Fremantle captain Peter Bell was re-elected unopposed to his fourth term as AFLPA President, after first becoming President of the Players' Association in 2003. He welcomed the re-election of the current group and was looking forward to tackling the upcoming challenges the collective playing group face.
"We've got a good mix of youth and experience on the Executive, making sure we have representation from the various age groups and backgrounds of players. On a personal note I'm excited to be involved during such an important time for AFLPA," he said.
Nathan Buckley was also re-elected as AFLPA Vice-President.
Nathan Buckley said: "I believe strongly in the opportunities football can provide and I'm pleased to be able to give something back to the game and fellow players through my involvement in the AFLPA," Buckley said.
