AFLPA Player Agents Accreditation Overview

As the body representing the collective professional interests of AFL Players, the AFL Players' Association has an obligation to ensure that competent and ethical individuals represent it's members.

To help ensure this, the AFL Players' Association manages a compulsory accreditation process for AFL player agents.

How the process works

Applications to become an Accredited AFL Player Agent are only accepted during the AFL Agent Accreditation Period - which is between Thursday 1 May and Sunday 15 June.  Applicants wishing to become accredited at other times must demonstrate extenuating circumstances which the AFLPA Accredited Agents Board would consider to allow them to undertake the accreditation process at another time.

Individuals must complete the following steps in order to become an accredited AFL Player Agent.

  • Complete the AFLPA Agent Accreditation Application form

Applicants must complete and return to the AFLPA the Application for Accreditation as an AFL Player Agent form.  All accreditation and application fees must be included with this form.

Agent accreditation fees are as follows:

Accreditation Fee = $500 (plus GST)

Application Fee = $400 (plus GST)

Annual subscription = $900 (plus GST)

TOTAL = $1980

  • Obtain and supply a copy of Professional Indemnity Insurance

Applicants must hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance.  A copy of this information must be supplied to the AFLPA.

  • Obtain a Criminal History Check

Applicants must apply for a Victoria Police Criminal History Check.  This check must be included in any application to become an accredited player agent.

  • Sit an AFLPA Accredited Agent exam

Applicants must also sit a supervised exam, dealing with the applicants knowledge of the range of collective instruments which apply to AFL players, which includes, but is not limited to, the Collective Agreement and Player Rules.

The exam period is from Monday 16 June to Friday 20 June.  Exam times will be booked with all applicants with Victorian based applicants sitting the exam at the AFLPA Offices.  Applicants from non-Victorian states will have the facility to complete their exam in their home state.

What next?

Once the applicant has successfully completed the exam and supplied all relevant information and documentation, probational accreditation shall be granted.
