AFLPA announce Madden Medal nominees

29 Nov 2007 - Jason Murnane

Some of the AFL's most respected and decorated 2007 season retiring players were listed today among the nominees for the AFL Players' Association Madden Medal - presented by AMP.

On Thursday December 13, at ZINC in Melbourne's Federation Square, the AFLPA will host the first ever Madden Medal event.  Aimed at celebrating the talent, commitment and effort it takes to play even a single game of AFL football, the AFLPA Madden Medal farewells 2007 season retiring players whilst acknowledging the achievements of all players leaving the game.

The 2007 AFL season saw the retirement of a star studded list of footy greats, making the task of short listing candidates for the various Madden Medal award categories extremely difficult for the group charged with producing the nominees, the AFLPA Executive Committee.

Presented by AMP, the AFLPA Madden Medal awards celebrate the contributions of all retired & delisted players, across a range of on and off field categories.  Names such as Buckley, Hird, Ricciuto and Archer among many others are to be especially recognised for their contributions.

Awards to be presented include the GNC LiveWell Football Achievement Award, the Open Universities Australia  Personal Development Award and the Medibank Private Community Spirit Award.

These awards culminate into the events major award, the Madden Medal - presented by AMP.
The completion of the 2007 season saw the collective retirement of some of the greatest ever names in football.  As the ultimate award, recognising AFL players for excellence on and off the field, the seven nominees for the Madden Medal can rightly feel proud of their football journeys.

All of these awards culminate into the events major award, the Madden Medal - presented by AMP .
