AFLPA announce Most Valuable Player Award nominations

The winner of the AFL player selected Leigh Matthews Trophy will be announced at the 2007 AFLPA Most Valuable Player awards, on Grand Final eve, Friday September 28^th at Melbourne’s Grand Hyatt and will be broadcast live & exclusive on Fox Sports.

The AFL Players’ Association Most Valuable Player awards remain the only AFL playing awards determined by AFL footballers.  This year, over 600 AFL players nominated and selected those amongst their peers worthy of special recognition across a number of categories, including;  

• The Leigh Matthews Trophy for the Most Valuable Player
• Best Captain
• Robert Rose award for Most Courageous Player
• Best First Year Player

Other Awards to be announced at the event include;

• Education & Training Excellence Award, sponsored by Drake Training;
• Marn Grook Award for best emerging Indigenous player, sponsored by QANTAS.
• Grant Hattam Trophy for excellence in football journalism, sponsored by Corrs Chambers Westgarth Lawyers; 
• Mike Fitzpatrick Scholarships, supporting young players in their education & training whilst they are aspire to an AFL career.
