Kherrington is a much better all around dancer than Comfort, who is terrific in her specialty, but struggles valiantly in other styles. Kherrington suffered from an unlucky style... read more

On Monday, comments from So You Think You Can Dance judge and choreographer Mia Michaels were reported here regarding dancers from Utah. Michaels, however, later issued the statement, below, to clarify her position.Statement from Mia Michaels:First of all, I have tons of friends who are from Utah and who are Mormons. I love them. I respect their choices and their belief system. And the fact that they don’t have the same vices that we do is great. They're so focused in their lives. They’re so clear. And they are workhorses. Their work ethic is just amazing. Any dancers that I've worked with in Utah? Oh my god, they do not stop. And it's not just the dancers. There are so many great choreographers and teachers out there. More than a handful. A double handful. Whenever anybody talks about Utah, it's about how it's a really strong dance capitol. They have even better dancers than New York, sometimes. Wow. Wow. Wow. But before I get to that, let’s talk about the group dances and how excited I was about not having a musical interlude.The first group dance is a Bollywood piece choreographed by Nakul. I must admit to being a little disappointed with it. After seeing the high energy Bollywood piece Joshua and Katie performed two weeks ago, I fear anything else would have been a disappointment. I mean, I enjoyed it. But it just didn’t seem as energetic. Or as fun.The second group dance is a Contemporary piece for the girls choreographed by Mia Michaels. I think I’ve used “strange and beautiful” to describe her work before and I’m going to use it again now. There was some beautiful floor work and a lot of great emotion in Mia's piece. Great job. The final group dance is a combination of Broadway and Hip-Hop choreographed for the guys by our very own Nigel. It was a fun piece. Cat is looking delicious and delovely in her gold dress. I’m liking this hair way better then the (fake) hair from last Thursday. That hair went to Mary Murphy this week. Come on – we know your hair ain’t that long Mary. I still love ya though.So in addition to seeing the new partners dance two styles we’ll also see a solo. I think adding the solo is a pretty smart way to get some dancers to stick around longer than they would otherwise. If a good dancer picks two dances they’re not familiar with (or particularly good at) they can all but save themselves with their solo. They’re making our jobs hard.Our first new couple of the night is Courtney and Joshua. They get a Hip-Hop number choreographed by Dave Scott.Lil’C: Great choreography. Enjoys the comedy. Joshua kills it. Courtney did good. They made the routine their own and added character.Mary: They have chemistry. Think You Can Dance Shuffle: Jessica Out, Comfort In | Today's News: Our Take | 7/14/2008
So You Think You Can Dancer Jessica is out, and Comfort is back in, Fox announced Monday morning at the TCA press tour. “I would like to say how sorry I am that Jessica cannot continue dancing in the competition at the advice of her doctor," executive producer/judge Nigel Lythgoe said in a statement. "Her full recovery is paramount and will only come with rest. We are fortunate that Comfort has agreed to rejoin the competition and know that under the circumstances she has Jessica's full support." Lythgoe said that U.S. laws prevented him from elaborating on the exact nature and magnitude of Jessica's injury, but said that Jessica would do so herself on Wednesday night's episode. Why do the dancers get dinged on Choregraphy?
I don't get why the judges ding the kids on the choreography when they did not even do it...they should strictly look at how they are executing it...I call foul on the judges for... read more
