Pick up classic Hitchcock thrillers all this week, only in The Times
In this litigious day and age, James Gostelow’s reaction to being elbowed in the head by one of Britain’s most famous women was refreshing: "Not everyone can say they have been hit by Amy Winehouse.”
The Londoner, who became suddenly famous after last weekend’s scuffle added: “It is all part of the Glastonbury experience.”
Perhaps Gostelow’s relaxed attitude comes from knowing that he has earned a place in rock’s long history of fan versus the band scuffles.
Here, we bring you the top ten.
10, Daphne and Celeste
When one-hit wonders Daphne and Celeste made their ill-advised decision to play at the 2000 Reading festivals, the audience were not impressed. In a unified show of disgust, festivalgoers pelted the pair with bottles. Others might have left the stage, red-faced, but the ever-perky Daphne and Celeste saw fit to launch into that most aggravating of songs Ooh Stick You.
9. Kiss
Forget what you’ve heard about the constantly changing Kiss line-up, when it comes to fans with laser torches, the made-up men of rock stick together. When a cheeky punter at a 1998 New Jersey concert shone a laser in Paul Stanley’s face, Gene Simmons leapt to his defence. Killing the music, the Kiss frontman spent an admirable amount of time and creativity publicly humiliating the man who he quickly re-named ‘arsehole’, ‘big man’ and ‘schmuck’. Memorable lines included: ‘Hey schmuck, take that laser out one more time and I’ll put it right up your arse’.
8. Panic at the Disco
It wasn’t so much a ‘band versus fan’ moment as a ‘fan wins outright immediately’ moment. When Panic at the Disco took the stage at last year’s Reading Festival, frontman Brendon Urie didn’t even make it through the first song before an audience member lobbed a bottle at the right side of his head, knocking him out.

I remember an early Manic Street Preachers gig where a hippy took offence to the "I laughed when Lennon got shot" line in Motown Junk, mounted the stage and grabbed Nicky Wire by the ankle. Wire clubbed him with his bass, but only succeeded in getting the man's dreadlocks tangled in the bridge!

I know it's not fan vs band, but what about Kurt Cobain cracking his guitar off a security guard's head when he dragged him back out of the crowd during a gig? Blood was pouring from the man's head yet he still landed a massive punch on poor Kurt!
See Nirvana, Live Tonight Sold Out! for footage!!

Roger Waters of Pink Floyd, 1977, Montreal spits in the face of a fan at the front because he was annoying him?
But it led him to write The Wall, so the fan should be pleased :-)

Surprised there wasn't space for the riot at a Suicide concert in Brussels, back in 77 or 78. This is "worth" checking out on the double cd isse of the eponymously titled debut album.

Am I missing the point or was she out of her tree? We seem to have a blind spot to this woman. She is a great singer but we should not in any way condone her drug taking. We should not hide the fact she did what she did because she was stoned - and it is these drugs that will kill her prematurely.
Jon, Nottingham,
How can you omit the classic confrontation last year when Billy Joe Shaver shot some guy in the face outsidea Texas roadhouse?

Was I imagining things or did the huge diamond rock that Amy was wearing, suddenly disappear whilst she was being grabbed by the crowd?
By the time she fell off the boardwalk down in the pit in front of the stage, the ring wasn't on her hand.
Rosie, Leeds, England
for more lazer pointer orientated fun, I recommend seeing Dave Mustaine of Megadeth tear into some kid at a festival.
YouTube 'Dave vs the Lazer'.
good times, good times.

Reading Festival 1987. Meatloaf the final act. The band opened up with Bat Out of Hell on a darkened stage. A single spotlight picked out Mr Loaf as he walked up to the mike, took it from its stand and lifted it to his mouth. With perfect timing a bottle of urine hit him. Clunk mike on teeth.
