Olivia Attacks This Blog

Read Ohhhh, Life
Life has been very stressful and crazy lately. Auditioning has been going great, but I've found myself passing on jobs lately because my schedule has been so crammed. It's hard because I'm in a place where I would really love a little creative change, but I guess it's a "high-class" problem — too much work. Then again, a "high-class problem" is still a problem. Oh, well. Hopefully soon everything will be able to work together.

To destress I went to see 300 this past weekend. It was awesome! What a great movie! I really think it'll change the way studios do movies in the future. The entire movie was shot in Toronto in front of a blue screen. All of the effects were done with CG. I also think the $70 million opening weekend proves that you don't have to have "name" stars to be a great, box-office movie. As long as it's a great story, there are talented actors and the whole thing is well executed, this type of movie can be a success. "This will not end quickly. You will not enjoy it. I am not your queen."

This Thursday, March 15, at 10 pm/ET, a new show, October Road, will air right after Grey's Anatomy. This is such a fantastic show. It's about a guy who leaves home after high school and doesn't return for 10 years. During that time away, he became a famous writer after he wrote a best-selling book about all of his friends back home. When he returns to his hometown, he finds that things have changed and he's not exactly welcome there anymore. One big change: he might have a 10-year-old son. He's not sure, though. His high-school sweetheart assures him it's not his. But things just aren't making sense. This show was created by the writer of the movie Beautiful Girls. Make sure to TiVo/DVR and watch this Thursday.

Hope everyone's life is great. I'm about to start a new book, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. I'll let you know how that turns out.

Until then, good night!
Read The Golden Globes and Playboy, Oh My!
Yes, the Golden Globe Awards were a couple of weeks ago and all of Hollywood has already moved on to the Oscars. But allow me to take a step back and tell you of my experiences at some of the Golden Globes after-parties.

I was standing outside one of the parties, about to walk in, when the fire marshall came to the door and said no one else would be allowed in. They were at capacity and we would have to wait for some people to leave; there were two large groups of people all dressed up, waiting to start partying. Standing next to me were stars from Grey's Anatomy, The Office and Desperate Housewives. I was definitely in good company.

Time was going by very slowly as we all crammed into this small area. I was looking around me and noticed that Dr. McSteamy is as gorgeous in person as he is on TV. As our patience started to wear extremely thin, a ray of hope shone through. We heard a security person yell for the entire mass of celebrities waiting to separate into two lines. Yes! We were goin' in. And then we heard him say something... something that no one was expecting — especially these Golden Globe-nominated actors waiting to get into their own party. The security person yelled, "Everyone, I need a center aisle! Paris Hilton needs to get in!"

Yes. It is true. Now, I would completely understand if this was a party to promote a cell phone or a new fruity vodka brand. But there were actual working, talented actors waiting to get into this party. A party that was dedicated to a night honoring talented, hardworking actors. Not for Paris Hilton. Some agents began complaining and trying to talk to the people handling the door, telling them how inappropriate that was. The response I heard was, "Well, it's a party. We can let in who we want."

Now, I'm not saying Paris shouldn't have been let into the party. And I'm not saying there was a problem with waiting for safety reasons. I didn't mind waiting. But, when I'm watching the cast members from great nominated shows standing around me get pushed aside, it's gets a little more than irritating.

Eventually, we were all let inside the party, and it was fine.

As great as that story is, it wasn't my favorite recent event. My Playboy Babe of the Month came out for the February issue. Babe of the Month is a celebrity profile page... and no, I'm not nude.

I am so excited to be part of a magazine that is so legendary. And my thrill of being in the magazine was topped off with a blog Playboy put up on its website about the great response the magazine has received about my page. It has so many beautiful people on its pages, it's nice to know that I made some kind of impression on readers.

Attack of the Show is still great and going strong. We're doing a lot of cool stuff, including heading to Amsterdam in April for some special shows. Make sure to tune in weeknights at 7 pm/ET on G4.

Okay, it's pilot season and I'm shooting everyday, so I have to get to bed. Good night!
Read My Week in Las Vegas
I just got back from spending the week in Vegas shooting two two-hour specials for G4. One was on the Consumer Electronic Show and the other was the Adult Entertainment Expo. It was my first time at both conventions, and I think you can guess which was the most... um, how do I say this... educational?

But I did have a lot of fun at CES, even if it wasn't as "exciting." The theme of this year's CES was TVs. I saw inflatable, waterproof, wireless, 1080p, HD, 109-inch, 112-inch... basically every kind of TV you can imagine. Even though the inflatable TV was a creative idea, it wasn't so impressive. The screen was crap, and it's kinda pointless. Most of the companies were competing for the largest flat-screens, though. There would be a sign that read, "Largest Flat-Screen: 109 inches!" Then you would turn the corner and see another sign that said, "Largest Flat-Screen: 110 inches!" But I have to say, I don't care who has the biggest — at that size, they're all so beautiful. It makes my 36-inch Sony Trinitron look very pitiful. And the best part of the TV craze this year is the wireless invention. Imagine being able to hang a 100-inch flat screen on your wall without having to drill any holes into the wall to hide all the wires. It definitely made my heart skip a beat.
MAC was not in attendance at this year's CES. Instead they had their own convention in San Francisco called MacWorld. That's where they introduced the new iPhone. When that news came out, it basically trumped anything that was announced in Vegas. MAC has been talking about this for quite some time, but to actually see it was amazing. The phone is slim and small. It has touch-screen and landscape mode. And of course it has all of the functions that you would expect of something starting with "i." As soon as I get mine, I'll let you all know what it's really like.
So, that was all on one side of the Las Vegas Convention Center. And on the other was a completely different world. AEE is a show that spotlights the adult-film industry and all of its stars, products and movies. This is a world that is completely foreign to me. It's safe to say that I had one look on my face the entire time: I think it can be summed up with two words, "What the...?!" Since this is TV Guide, I'll keep it PG. There were things and people and video there that I basically had to tell people, "I'm sorry. I have a staring problem. It's medical." But to really grasp the entirety of it, you should watch the special. Both have already aired, but I'm sure they'll be rerunning them. So you can TIVO or go online to find them.

So, as you can guess, I'm very tired. It's been an event-filled week and I learned so much, but now I need to go to bed. Before I do, I should probably shower... thoroughly.
Read How I Got My Shows... (Part 2)
So, in my last blog I talked about how I got my Nickelodeon show Beyond the Break. (By the way, the second season starts this Friday night! So make sure to TiVo and watch.)

But I wanna tell you how I became the new face of G4... I got a call from my hosting agent one day about an audition. Just like any other day, this was just another audition. I went into G4, not knowing exactly what the audition entailed. I saw a bunch of pretty girls sitting reading scripts and primping with their compact mirrors. I looked over the script briefly, but in hosting auditions, I usually try not to overthink and just go in and be myself. My name was called and I went into a very small room — there was a camera, a camera operator and the casting director. They had a script for me to read and then asked me to improv stuff about entertainment headlines — I think I talked about Britney driving with her baby in her lap.

A week later my agent called and said G4 wanted to see me for another show, Formula D. Same thing as the first audition, except this time I knew I had an edge on the competition. Formula D is about the sport of "drifting." It originated in Japan, where I grew up, and my little brother is a drifter. They threw out a lot of Japanese words and I had no problem throwing them right back out there — it was definitely my show to lose.

Then a week later, I got a call that they wanted me to go in again. I went in a tank top and jeans, no makeup. But, I didn't know I'd be on set with my future co-host doing a screen test! So, they put me through a little makeup and threw me in front of the camera. I had immediate chemistry with Kevin and felt really great about the experience. Not long after that, I got the call that I not only booked Formula D and Attack of the Show, but became the new face of the network... and my life hasn't been the same since.

Life at G4 is so much fun. I get to travel the world, hang out with great people and my mom gets to see me on TV everyday. :-x
Read How I Got My Shows... (Part 1)
This week has been crazy. I spent the Thanksgiving weekend back in Oklahoma with the family... my mom was obsessed with picking up people's pumpkins from the street and roasting the seeds. I had to get out of the car in the cold a few times to load more than a handful of strangers' pumpkins. I flew home Monday to LA morning and had to go from the airport to an audition and then immediately to the G4 studios to shoot a live TV show. This has been the schedule for my life lately, so everything went smoothly because I'm used to it.

Yesterday on Attack of the Show, we had a very special guest... I was very excited because he's fellow TV Guide blogger John Lehr. We laughed together, reminisced together, and even shed a few tears together... I think we're best friends now. I doubt he'd say the same, but I thought that if I put it out in the universe it might come true... fingers crossed!B-)If you haven't checked out his blog yet, you should, but also watch his new TV show 10 Items or Less. It's hilarious and all improv. Trust me, you have to check it out.

When I read John's latest blog I got the idea for this one: How I Got My Shows. In this blog, I'm gonna talk about my Nickelodeon show Beyond the Break, on THE N — I heard about this show last fall through a friend of mine in acting class. She had just auditioned for it, but wasn't going any further with the show. It was about surf girls and I knew it was perfect for me. I called my agent the next morning and he got me the audition. When I showed up at the audition (at some studio in Hollywood), there were a lot of people roaming around the building. Basically, there's a lot of competition. I went in and read with the casting director. In auditions, you usually have a good sense of whether or not the casting people liked what you did. And that audition felt good. I made strong choices and looked just like the character description. Oh! They made everyone audition in swimsuits!! I was in a bikini in front of a picture of the ocean. The casting director wanted to make the audition tapes look as close to the real thing as possible. That way it's easier for the producers to picture the characters in the show. So, I did the audition and felt great about it. My agent called me a week later and told me I was going on to read for the producers... again in bikini. After that audition, I got the next call saying the producers loved me and wanted to test me for the show. "Testing" in Hollywood is usually the last step before you book a job. They were testing all the roles that day, so it took all day. There was one other girl testing with me for the role of "Kai". At the end of the test — which is basically the audition again — the producers brought everyone in and told us we would be doing a "surf test". They wanted to make sure we were comfortable in the water. Two days later we were all out at the Santa Monica beach. It was cold and the waves were breaking close to shore. But, two-by-two we all went out there and tried to tackle the waves. Not many people were able to get up, because it was pretty close to high tide. I was lucky enough to catch one wave.

After that, my agent called me and told me that they wanted to book a "local hire" for the role of "Kai". I was bummed out, but in this business you have to do your best and realize it's not in your control.

A few weeks later the producers from the show brought me in to audition for the role of "Milly", Kai's best friend. She's a tough local chick, known as a "titta." Because I made the choice to play Kai a little tougher in the test, they thought I would be perfect for Milly. So, I booked the role and soon I was in Hawaii shooting. I spent two months shooting in Wainae on the island of Oahu. It was amazing and the cast and crew are great. When I watched the first episode, I was really happy to see it all come together. It was a long journey... From the day I called my agent about the audition to being on set in Hawaii. I learned from that experience to really go after what you want, and if it's meant to be, it'll find a way to work out.
Read Guitar Hero 2 and Movies... Aaah, the Perfect Weekend
I spent the whole weekend in Atlanta playing Guitar Hero 2... and yes, it was awesome! For those of you who don't know what that is, it's a game for Playstation 2. It's basicaly like guitar karaoke. It just came out Wednesday and has a lot more games than the first one and you can do multi-player with one person playing lead, the other bass. I spent the whole weekend opening up levels/songs. I think I've found the new love of my life.

When I did break away from my virtual rockstar life, I was watching movies. HBO has been playing one of my favorite movies a lot lately — Prime. It's a fabulous movie, with some really great actors: Meryl Streep, Uma Thurman, Bryan Greenberg. If you have time, you should definitely check it out. I also made it to see Babel. That was a really amazing movie. The movie had a lot of layers, but I found that it was mostly about the breakdown of communication between people and cultures. Every actor in the movie was great. And one of my favorite actors, Gael Garcia Bernal, is in it. His part is smaller, but he is complete and really delivers.

So, I watched great movies and played Guitar Hero 2... you'd think I've used up all my luck, but no! I came to work today and got to play the new Nintendo Wii, which doesn't come out until next Monday.

On my daily show, Attack of the Show, we played the Wii game that comes with the console. It has a lot of different sports games and today I got to do the boxing. It was so much fun. It comes with two sensor controllers: joystick and nunchuck. The game is really user-friendly and you can even design yourself on the game... mine has hazel eyes, long black hair and freckles.

This Friday, Nov. 17, Attack of the Show is doing a two-hour Playstation 3 special. We'll have all the latest news and be playing games on the console live!

I'm so tired, so I gotta get to bed... I'll let you know how this week turns out for me in my next blog... Until then, goodnight!
Read Hello TV Land!!
I'm Olivia Munn and this is my first blog for TV Guide... I'm so excited to reach out to my peers, aka, the entire TV-watching world.

In case you don't know me — and there's a good chance of that — I'm an actress and TV host. I have a recurring role on Nickelodeon's nighttime teen network, The N. It's a show called Beyond the Break and it's about amateur surf girls trying to break out... I play Mily Acuna, a local tough chick. And look for me in Rob Schneider's next film, Big Stan, coming out early next year.

Along with acting, I also became the face of the cable network G4. It used to be about video games and technology... and even though it's still about that, we've branched out to more general fare. I host three shows for them — The Daily Nut (podcast), Formula D and the main show for the network, Attack of the Show. AOTS is daily and kinda like Regis and Kelly meets TRL meets The Daily Show.

So now that you have a sense of what I do for a living, I can start blogging about the fun stuff...

I live in Hollywood and spend a lot of time with my boyfriend... You might know him.. He's kinda famous. His name is TiVo. I'm in love with him, haha.
Right now, some of my favorite shows are Las Vegas, Studio 60, The Daily Show, Bill Maher, Family Guy, Heroes, CSI... to name a few off the top of my head.
But, right now I'm in a big movie mode. The other day AOTS shot an entire show dedicated to Borat. G4 was the first in the nation to get a private screening of the movie before anyone else. We rented out an entire theater and invited fans to watch it with us. The movie was hilarious. Some say it's the "funniest movie ever." I don't know if I would say that. The movie was more scary. I couldn't believe the things he was getting away with. It was definitely a great movie and worth seeing. But, the funniest movie I've seen this year has got to be Little Miss Sunshine. Last night I saw Running With Scissors and it was really a brilliant movie. Annette Bening was ridiculously amazing and really delivered.

A lot of people have been sick at work, and I'm trying to stay healthy, so I'm gonna get to bed. Thanks so much for checking in with me. Hope life is great for all of you...
