Episode Recap: Charleston and Washington D.C. Auditions

Episode Recap by karahowland
Um, did I mention I’m not particularly fond of these audition shows? My pain is somewhat assuaged by the fact that we’ll meet our top 20 dancers next Thursday (or at least that’s what my TV Guide magazine promises). In the meantime, the Charleston auditions brings us guest judge Tyce Diorio. I enjoy him. I don’t always agree with his opinions but... read full recap

I don’t always agree with his opinions but I’m not a choreographer so I definitely respect his critiques of the dancers. Let’s get started.Day OneSheila Kaiser – She’s auditioning against her father’s wishes. He thinks she should be in school but she has something to prove. And she sure does. Her contemporary routine puts her straight through to Vegas.Jeremiah Hughes – He scares me a little during his warm-ups, especially when he says his flaw is” being human.” I find him a bit strange but his dancing is beautiful. Would you call his style contemporary with an interpretive dance flair? Whatever you call it, he’s... read more

We still can't get over this contestant from last week on So You Think You Can Dance. Twenty-year-old street performer Robert Muraine absolutely wowed the judges with his unbelievable flexibility and crazy body contortions. Is there such a thing as being quadruple-jointed? And for those of you not up to speed on what a 'popper' is, this video will catch you up this type of dancing that all those crazy kids are into these days. read more

Hi all. Thanks for all your great comments. Once again, I’m keeping this short. No, I’m not still on vacation but as there are many bad dancers I refuse to name or critique, there will be a bit less for me to discuss. Is it just me or did the judges seem nicer is Salt Lake City on day one? I thought they were pretty respectful and not unduly harsh. Day two brings some harsher criticism but I was so proud of them for keeping it cordial for that long. Also, how much did you enjoy guest judge Mandy Moore? First of all, I really enjoyed her choreography from last year. Second, I love the name. What? I admit that I’m a fan of another Mandy Moore. Third, I liked how much she got into the dancers she really liked. Some of my favorites: Chelsie Hightower (ballroom), Gev Manoukian (breaker), Matt Dorame (ballet), and Kelli Baker (contemporary). I do feel the need to devote a little more space to Kelli. I thought she moved beautifully and I’m going to go out on a limb to... read more

Hi all. Welcome to what I'm sure will be another great season of So You Think You Can Dance. I'm on vacation in the Sunshine State right now, but I wanted to put something up so you could comment to your hearts delight. I must admit one thing right now: I'm not a huge fan of the audition shows. In years past I will admit to fast forwarding through most of the show and only pausing to watch the good dancers. I'll admit another thing: I think I've been selling these shows short. I felt like I got to know a little about the good (and bad) dancers and a whole lot more about our judges (that's jidges, if Cat's saying it. Love her). Quick question: Have Nigel, Mary, and Mia always laughed so unmercifully at the bad dancers? I felt kind of bad although I can't possibly imagine how I'd feel after sitting through hours and days of bad dancing. I might be a little punch drunk too. And let's bring me back on topic. I was surprisingly satisfied with tonight's show although I will allow it... read more
