Sanitarium doesn't work
After launching the game and after the intro, the screen became black listening voices all around(this is part of the game) and when the first screen appears, after one second the character to the bottom left of the screen begin to corrupt and a fatal error message appears concerning the sntrm.exe file.
Anyone knows about this problem? I attached my spec file(also if I needed to cut it in the end to reduce size) Thank to anyone |

No help here, but you are not the only one having the problem I solved it temporaily by copying all the files off the Cd onto my drive, but at level 3 i got the same error. Ive done about 9 installs, and even gone back for a new copy of the game. Heres hoping we find a solution |

You don't say which version of the game you are running (the new XS budget re-release or the original version) but the older version of the game is a bit picky about running on XP. You should try installing and running it in Win98 Compatibility mode. There is also a patch required for the older version, which you can get here
Also, in Giacomoto's case, I notice that at least one of the sound drivers is unsigned, which would indicate a possible need to update the sound drivers. In your case, Cherrygirl, you should make sure that all your drivers are up-to-date (you'd be surprised how many people's aren't). If that doesn't fix the problem, then try lowering your graphics and sound hardware acceleration each one notch.

Sanitarium actually runs fine on most pc (the older version, I mean) just by using win98 compatibility, it gave me no probs at all on both of my two windows xp.

Right click on sanitarium.exe, Properties and choose 'Windows 98' in the run down menu, under the Compatibility flap.

The game used to crash at the start of Chapter 2. I'm running XP, I even changed combatibility. I think it was caused after I updated Windows.
Update, I installed the game, and it crashes right at the start! See attachment Last edited by Reflection : 08-03-2005 at 07:12 AM. |

The link posted by BacardiJim isn't working. When I click the link to download the patch a message comes up about a password.

The patch only helps if you get locked up in level 2 and can't get out, which I suppose is not the case of anybody here, anyway: here it is. Be advised that your older saves will not work.
Unfortunately I remember now SoundFX is just for dos programs (same with VDMSound), so it won't help with Sanitarium. Really all you can do is compatibility tricks or either trying to run it on a virtual machine.

Which virtual machine will work for the game? Does the re-release of Sanitarium work well on XP? |

Don't know about the XS release of Sanitarium, but whatever Virtual Machine will work. Read my topic on Microsoft Virtual PC for more information (although it used to be sticky and now it has disappeared... hmm)

I am having this problem too :-/ Seems that the error happens after cutscenes normally, although sometimes it just happens randomly. It's really wierd.
Does anyone have the xp type patch that hj2004 spoke of? |

Have you tried what tongwujun98 suggested? I seem to remember that it did the trick for me.

Yer, I tried turning direct draw off for it but it still crashed. The loading for the second level was almost instant though with it off? :S Where as it took one or two seconds before.
