INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the 2008 Golden Joysticks!

As the Joysticks now enters its twenty sixth triumphant year, Gaming’s favourite awards ceremony is set to be back bigger and better than ever in 2008!

Last year, the 25th Anniversary Silver Jubilee Golden Joysticks was an unprecedented success with over three quarters of a million votes cast and an internet audience of thousands tuning in to see the winners in categories as diverse as the Soundtrack of the Year, Publisher of the Year and of course, the most prestigious prize of all, the Golden Joystick Ultimate Game of the Year.

In 2007 Epic’s Gears of War swept the board winning an amazing four Golden Joysticks, but 2008 promises to be an even more stellar year for gaming with a host of amazing titles and gaming technology competing for your hearts, minds and ultimately, your votes.

Will Wii continue its unprecedented success? How will Xbox 360 respond to a resurgent PS3? Is PC gaming going the way of the dinosaur? In 2008, it’s down to you, the gamers, to decide.

Voting begins again this May when the long list opens as you narrow down a whole year’s worth of releases to the best of breed in each category. Then in June the shortlist opens and it’s truly game on as you have your say on the cream of the gaming crop.

But while we run these awards each year, we never forget it’s you, the great gaming public who make them so special. That’s why a Golden Joystick is considered to be the ultimate prize by both developers and publishers, because they’re voted for by the only people who truly matter, gamers themselves.

Now celebrating over a quarter of a century of success, the Golden Joysticks truly are the people’s gaming awards and it’s you, the gamers, that make them so.
