Peter Main to retire from Nintendo

Nintendo of America has announced that company stalwart Peter Main is to retire early in 2002

The executive vice president of sales and marketing for NOA has chosen to step down after 15 years of loyal service at Nintendo. Peter MacDougall, President of Nintendo Canada, is to be Mainis successor, officially taking up the position on February 1, 2002.

During Mainis 15 years at Nintendo HQ, heis overseen the release of countless groundbreaking systems and software, from the original NES, right through to the Gamecube, of which he will remain in office long enough to preside over the US launch. His departure has elicited great tributes from colleagues. iSometimes the term eindustry legendi is overused,i stated Minoru Arakawa, President of Nintendo of America. iBut in the case of Peter Main, it is perfectly appropriate. Many common industry practices were literally invented by Peter over the last 15 years, and we would not have achieved our phenomenal success without him,i he added. Great praise indeed.His successor Peter MacDougall has worked for Nintendo of Canada since 1989, having previously gained experience with Gillette and Seagrams. Arakawa also commented on MacDougallis appointment stating, iPeteris unique qualifications make him ideally suited for this job. His breadth of success is a distinct asset given the global nature Nintendois of business.iPeter Mainis last seven months in the job certainly have the potential to be some of the most exciting of his career.
