The BBFC has launched a new voluntary online ratings system, extending its reach to digital downloads and video games.

The system, called BBFC Online, will be entirely opt-in and will apply existing BBFC labels to films, TV and computer games that are either downloaded or streamed from the internet, set-top boxes, games consoles or mobile devices.
Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment have already signed up and several key media players are poised to sign, according to The Guardian.
Companies that sign-up will have to provide age verification as part of the scheme. Hopefully they'll be a little more comprehensive than the 'enter your age' boxes that currently 'police' online content.
