Chafariz Dos Contos Fountain

May 26, 1956 marked the giant celebration dedication ceremony of the Charfariz Dos Contos Fountain at the State Road #59 entrance to Forest Park. The fountain, A gift from Brazil South America to the City of Brazil, Indiana as a symbol of friendship, is a replica of the historic fountain in Ouro Preto Minas Grerais, Brazil S. A.  The fountain arrived in Brazil in 104 crates of granite pieces, Thirteen thousand dollars was donated by the local citizens to have the fountain assembled in Forest Park.

Starting in 1995, plans were entailed by the Clay County Parks Association for the restoration of the Brazilian fountain. The project was completed on June 14, 1997, with a formal Rededication of the Chafariz Dos Contos Fountain - over $30,000 in cash, materials and skilled labor were involved in this project.

A photo can be seen here that was taken July 1956 right after the Fountain was put together.  The Grandmother of Alice Quick took this photo right after the fountain was finished and the photo has remained in her family all these years. Notice the landscape.

The original Chafariz Dos Contos (Chafariz of Stories) is located in Reinaldo square Alves de Brito, Ouro Preto Minas Grerais, Brazil S. A. and was constructed in April of 1745.
