Pointers for PR Professionals
The editors of Intelligent Enterprise understand that it's your job to keep us informed about your
clients' activities. However, based on the fact that we receive hundreds of inquiries many of
which we simply can't respond to we ask that you be sensitive to our time and deadline
constraints.
The following pointers are designed to help you achieve your PR objectives in a manner appropriate
to IE's editorial staff structure and positioning.
1. Understand The Story Development Process
Intelligent Enterprise is unique in that much of our content is provided by analysts, consultants, and practitioners. (Note that we very rarely accept vendor-bylined submissions or those from professional freelance writers.) For that reason, we are unable to put you in touch directly with authors during story development. However, we will forward information to authors when relevant.
2. Understand Our Editorial Mission
Intelligent Enterprise has a unique editorial mission that makes it
appropriate for some pitches but inappropriate for many others. If you can put your pitch in the
context of that mission, it is much more likely you will get a response.
3. Be Concise and Specific
If you are pitching a client, provide detailed but concise information about the business they are in and their relevance to the specific markets that IntelligentEnterprise.com covers. "Teasers" that provide no specific information will not get a response.
4. Don't Expect A "Live" Response
Last but most important, please understand that even if every pitch we received were relevant and interesting, it would be impossible for us to respond to them all — we simply wouldn't have time to do our jobs. Thus, it's entirely possible that you may not get an opportunity to speak with an editor. If you're certain your information is relevant to our readership (having seen similar coverage and/or coverage of competitors), follow up by phone if you have not received a reply to repeated e-mail queries.
