Financial losses to the treasury have been
caused by the ongoing elections to the state Legislative assembly
from its adverse impact on the functioning of the district
administration.
Property sales and registration cases having come down in their
number during the period of the election process, it was estimated
that Mysore district alone posted a loss of Rs 4.5 crore to the
state’s exchequer in April.
The dark clouds as it were of the model code of conduct slammed
by the Election Commission covering the buying and selling of the
property, hardly anybody came forward to buy properties.
The people also feared confiscation of their money drawn from the
banks by the personnel deployed on poll duties while taking it from
one place to another.
Mysore district accounted for 11,729 cases of documents during
April 2007 resulting in remittance of Rs 17,37,06,348 to the state
treasury in the form of stamp duty and other revenues.
More income to the government had been anticipated during April
2008, however, only 5348 documents were registered during the last
month earning Rs 12,53,28,552 for the government through stamp
duties and other revenues.
The functioning of the district administration which was
affected during the last one month since, the distirct election
office has drawn more then 12,000 government officials for the poll
duty. Deputy Commissioner P Manivannan said that the
loss of the works would be made up after the election process is
completed.
