COURSE

Bangalore School of Music is having two courses for music lovers and professionals with reputed faculty from the USA of eight sessions starting from September 8. There will be a jazz course for beginners and singers with Latin American singer and the atre personality Silvia Lazo. The course will cover elements of jazz – origins, blues, traditional jazz, swing, modern and behop. Guitarist Paul Grove will also be available. Silvia Lazo will use her theatre experience to conduct the theatre course which will cover the basics of acting, characterization and the different genres. Institute of Baking and Cake Art is conducting a training-course in snacks, sandwiches from September 3 to 5 and in desserts from September 6 to 8. This course will be conducted through a series of lectures, demonstrations and hands-on-practice. There will also be an entrepreneur’s bakers’ course, an extensive baking and confectionary course and a diploma in bakery confectionary and cake art from September 3. Call 9986088025. St. Joseph’s College, 36, Langford Road is starting 19 new certificate programmes of 120 hours each. These programmes are designed for students who are currently pursuing their three-year degree courses, completed graduation and post-graduation and will be held on Saturday afternoons between 2 and 5 p.m. and other public holidays. Three of these certificate programmes are sponsored by the UGC-University Grants Commission. Info Script, a medical transcription company offers a course in medical transcription, and exposes the students to alternative careers and other courses include advertising, media and journalism, legal literacy, documentary production etc. There will also be full-time coaching classes for civil service exams conducted by the UPSC for IAS/IPS/IFS etc. Applications for the same are sold at Rs. 20 at the college office. ADVENTURE

Wishbone Interactive is organising a trek to Kadumane Estate in Sakleshpur, a low elevation 7000-acre tea estate. Gerry Martin, India’s National Geographic Channel Adventurer will lead the program and share his experience in the wilderness. Dep arture will be on September 7 at 11.30 p.m. and arrive on September 9 at 11.30 p.m. Accommodation will be arranged at the bungalow with sleeping bags and activities include a mountain ridge trek, jummaring, target jump, wildlife tracking. THEATRE

PROMOTION

EXHIBITION


Ambara is presenting “Borders”, an exhibition where Arti Shantakumar of OMO (On My Own), Mumbai, has created a special line of Indo-Western wear using borders as accents. And Utsav of Delhi brings its special bounty of woven and printed s aris, dupattas and fabrics sporting borders. In this collection, textile conceptualiser, Shashiv Chandran, has worked with sharing border traditions amongst the handloom weavers and hand-block printers.

Gallery Dravidam presents the paintings of an emerging artist, Appanna Pujari, who draws inspiration from the Basholi School. For the exhibition, Appanna has worked on a special series of paintings with intricate borders. With this exhibition; Ambara announces the opening of its jewellery section, which will display the creations of four different designers.

Indo American Hybrid Seeds introduces garden accessories in stained glass by Sudha in terracotta and clay by Kumbham Murals from Kerala. The exhibition is on from September 5 to 8 between 10.30 a.m. and 7.30 p.m. at Ambara, 119 Annaswamy Mudaliar Road (beside Foto Flash), Ulsoor. Call 25575196.

Kusal Indoor Garden is organising an artificial flower show till September 9. The exhibition will showcase fabric flowers in containers of brass, fibre, terracotta, basket, ceramic and plastic. The exhibition is on display between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. at VR Plaza, Main Guard Cross Road (Near Safina Plaza). Contact 25588985.

FOOD FESTIVAL

Potluck Café at the Taj Gateway is celebrating the Italian food festival with Italian cuisine that is beyond pizzas and pastas. There will be an elaborate menu designed by Italian chef, Francis Correa includes pollo dama bianca, pesce alla cardi nale, scallopine di manzo e patate, con salsa viono rosso, and more.
