Project Azeroth -> Translation Annex
Introduction
This page is the hub for the translation of each of the languages in World of Warcraft.
Please visit each specific language page for a word listing.
=ranslation system may be related to a lookup table that takes the contents of each word, runs it against a
hash function, then spits out a word from the lookup table.
- Suleyman has done some reverse translation, making it so that words spoken in one language actually come out as readable by another. See the specific language pages for examples.
New Translations
Please press the Edit Page button at the top of the screen to add your new information below. Be sure to include your name and the date that you posted it. It will then be sorted out into the lexicon.
- A few simple translations - Vohl, in common, means 'what.' I believe Lars means Orcs. - Akhed.
- I think "Re'ka ogg" (Orcish as heard by the Alliance) may mean "Thank you". - Amaelalin
donkey is ur mama
- BUR as spoken and heard in Orcish is heard ad LOL in common - Hans 25/4/2005
How the Translation System Works
The translation system may be related to a lookup table that takes the contents of each word, runs it against a
hash function, then spits out a word from the lookup table.
- You type a word.
- WoW remembers the number of letters and where capitals are.
- WoW converts your word to a number and uses that to pick a word from a table (similar to the one below).
- The new word is displayed with the same capitals, number of letters, punctuation, etc.
- Making it possible for hundred's of thousands of words to convert into around 100 words with their own "flavor".
Here is an example from an addon called
Lore. It shows a translation table of the High Elven language "Thelassian".
The words below seem to be almost identical to
Darnarssian, but Lore's hash function appears to be different than Blizzard's.
Language: Thelassian - courtesy of Blizzard
- = { "a", "n", "i", "o", "e", "d" },

- = { "thoribas'no'thera", "ando'meth'derador", "anu'dorinni'talah", "esh'thero'mannash" }
There are also keywords that are not changed by
Lore's translation system, but I'm not sure if Blizzard uses anything like this.
- { "thelassian", "darnassian", "darnassus", "teldrassil", "elune" }
Very informative and well designed blog! Nice!
