The Shotgun 2 RB 3 WR Post Flags is a great play to call if you're looking to attack the middle of the field. This play provides two passing threats in the 5-10 yard range that will consistently cause problems for defenses. Another great aspect of this play is the ability to pick up pressure in the backfield with the fullback. Read below as SportsGamer breaks it down.

Play Breakdown

The offensive assignments for the Shotgun 2 RB 3 WR Post Flags can be seen in the first image shown above. Defensively, our opponent has come out in a Quarters Normal man to man with bump n' run on the outside receivers. The two most consistent passing options on this play is the (Y) running back out of the backfield and the (A) slot receiver on the right side of the field.

The cornerbacks apply the bump as soon as our quarterback receives the snap. We decide to look first to the receiver in the slot on the right. After the snap, the initial move that this player will make is running towards the sideline.

The key to completing this pass is waiting until the slot receiver cuts back to the inside. Once the receiver cuts back to the inside he'll get good inside position on the defender.

We make a high bullet pass by pressing up on the d-pad to put the ball in a spot that only our player can catch. The receiver hauls in the easy pass for a quick gain of 5 yards.

This time we're looking to hit the running back as he comes out of the backfield on the hard angle route. The timing of the throw is similar to the pass we just completed above. The running back will initially move to the outside first. Then, once the running back cuts back to the inside he will have the position on the defender needed to complete the pass.

Again, we deliver a strike with Favre to the open target. The end result on this play is a gain of 10 yards.

Final Thoughts

The ability the attack either side of the middle of the field not only makes it difficult to play man to man defenses, but it will also provides you with at least one good option against most zone defenses as well. The key to completing these passes is to make sure that you have the protection needed to sit comfortably in the pocket and make the throw at the proper timing. Take what we've broken down and now head into practice mode and give the Post Flags play a chance yourself.
