Recycling Centres

More about Recycling


Information about the location of recycling centres in Solihull.

At the recycling centres please:

  • Use the correct containers.
  • Please check the banks are completely full before taking your recycling home, don't leave your recycling on the floor.
  • Remove all bottle tops and lids from the jars.
  • Wash out all cans and crush before putting in the can bank. This means more cans can be recycled and the bin has to be emptied less often.
  • Do not crush aerosols.
  • Crush all plastic bottles an Tetra Pak type containers before recycling them so more can fit into the bins.
  • Take carrier bags and boxes home and reuse them.

Items that can be recycled in can banks:

  • Aerosols
  • All food cans
  • All drinks cans
  • Chocolate and cake tins
  • Clean aluminium foil

Items that can be recycled in paper banks:

  • Cardboard boxes
  • Cereal boxes
  • Yellow pages
  • Directories
  • All card

Blue glass can be recycled in the green bottle banks

Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre

We provide a Household Waste Recycling Centre for Borough residents to dispose of their general household waste and recycle many other materials. Further information on the facilities available can be found on the Household waste - Recycling centres page

If you would like to take large items of furniture to the Bickenhill Household Waste Recycling Centre in a trailer or commercial type vehicle you need a permit.

If you cannot get to Bickenhill we can collect your  bulky waste from you for a small fee. Or alternatively contact one of the charities below to see if they are able to collect the item for free.

Can I donate furniture to Charity?

Is the furniture in good condition to sell?

They take all old furniture which in good condition, that can be sold onto other people.

Are able to take anything electrical that they can test and is working. Can take HiFis and fridges which can be tested. Can't take TVS

Salvation Army, 0121 4274728

Will collect for free old furniture in good condition, but not wall units, dressings tables or sideboards. All beds and mattresses must still have the fire resistant sticker on. Televisions must not be more than 5 years old. Fridges must not be more than 2 years old.

Community Transport 0121 7732858

Will collect for free old furniture which can be sold on, soft furnishings, with fire resistance, washing machines, beds and mattresses etc. Resell through large shop in Birmingham.

If house clearance they charge £50

Will collect for free old furniture in good condition which is sold on.

If soft furnishings or beds/mattresses must be clean and have fire resistant labels
