In loving memory of Katie Johnson, Hasbro and Lucasfilm Ltd. proudly supported the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Astromech Droids are known to carry important messages, and it is especially true of this latest exclusive. R2-KT is a loving tribute to the memory of Katie, and is created in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. R2-KT was created to honor Katie Johnson, a very special little girl who passed away from brain cancer on August 9, 2005 at the age of seven. Katie had a wish to visit Walt Disney World, and Make-A-Wish Foundation made it come true.
The R2 Builders Club created a unique R2 unit especially for Katie, an idea that came from her sister Allie, who thought it would be great if Artoo could watch over Katie while she underwent treatment. The droid was named after Katie: R2-KT.The 501st Legion of approached Hasbro with the idea of producing a figure to commemorate R2-KT. This inspired Hasbro and Lucasfilm to help make more wishes true for children like Katie. Hasbro and Lucasfilm together are donating $100,000 in Katie's memory to the Make-A-Wish Foundations of South Carolina and San Diego.
