Dealing with a Stalker

April 25th, 2008

Stalkers are terrifying. They have intense focus on their victims and behave mindlessly of the law or potential consequences of their behavior. Stalkers come in all forms, from the nutcase you unintentionally anger on the street to a disturbed neighbor to a jealous spouse. The most disturbing stalkers are the ones you know.

Whenever you find yourself the victim of a stalker, the best thing you can do is to get away from them. Unfortunately, some stalkers follow victims to their places of employment, to friends’ homes, and when the victims run errands such as shopping. They can appear anywhere, and their behavior is always a wild card.

Protecting Yourself

The first thing you should do if you suspect you are being stalked is file a police report. You may even be able to have a restraining order issued against the person by your local court. These things give you tools that can lead to the stalkers eventual arrest or incarceration, but they cannot happen if you do not follow through.

Be Pro-active in Your Safety

Take measures to protect yourself as well. Invest in a home alarm, which need not be expensive. Wireless alarms or infrared technology that detects motion will warn you if someone tries to enter your home. Magnetic door and window alarms will sound if someone tries to open a door or attempts to break glass. These devices are important because they will scare your stalker away if he tries to get into your home. You can also install a TeleSpy telephone, which can be programmed to call your cell phone or work number if it detects motion in your home while you are away. A microphone allows you to listen to what is happening inside your home before you notify police.

Carry a compact yet powerful personal protection device with you, such as a personal taser, a disabling security spray, or a cleverly disguised stun gun such as the cell phone stun gun. High voltage security devices allow you to protect yourself so you can get away and call for help.

Coming out Ahead when it Comes to Self Defense

April 13th, 2008

In the movies, the victim of an attack usually manages to get away. She uses a tactically placed kick or clubs the attacker with an everyday object she happens to have in her hands, and escapes just in the nick of time.

Unfortunately, it is not always so simple in real life attacks. The attacker expects there to be resistance from the victim, and he is prepared to deal with it. In order to exercise true self defense, though, the victim should take all precautions to avoid possible confrontation from an attacker, then fight back heartily only when absolutely necessary.

Escape is Your Best Line of Defense

Rather than get entangled in a physical confrontation with someone who is charged up on alcohol, drugs, or adrenaline, it is far safer and easier to try to get away. Trust your instincts, and if they tell you to get out of a certain area, do so immediately. Dark parking lots and back alleys are two such places you do not want to traverse alone.

Learn Self Defense

Take a class that teaches you how to react properly to dangerous situations by quickly sizing them up and taking the appropriate action. You can learn how to break an attacker’s hold or how to catch him off guard. These give you an even greater chance for making an escape.

If all Else Fails, Fight

If everything else fails and you fall victim to an attack, fight. Do not play fair, though – fight to win. Try to hurt your attacker. You will have even greater success if you carry a personal safety weapon with you, such as a high voltage yet compact personal taser or a powerful stun gun. Small and portable yet ear piercing screecher alarms draw attention to you and may scare off an attacker. A safety spray such as pepper spray is yet another powerful weapon that may allow you disable your attacker long enough to get away.

As soon as your attacker lets go of you or backs away, run to safety and immediately notify the police.

Protecting Yourself on the Streets

April 2nd, 2008

Whether you live in a big city or a small town, the importance of being streetwise cannot be understated. It seems that criminal violence is reaching out into every community these days, big or small. By adopting an active awareness of your surroundings and a defensive mindset, you can keep yourself out of many potentially dangerous situations. If you are confronted by a potential attacker, there are a variety of personal protection devices that are small, compact, and powerful that can help you fend off a criminal.

Avoid dark parking lots and isolated places. If you must transit through such areas, consider carrying a personal protection device such as an ear piercing screecher alarm, which will signal for help and deafen an attacker at the same time. Or carry a concealable yet legal personal defense weapon such as a safety spray like Mace or pepper spray, a personal Taser, or a stun gun. These weapons are compact yet powerful, allowing you to instantly disable an attacker and run towards safety.

Remain Constantly Vigilant

Criminals are looking for an easy target, so do not become one. If possible, travel with friends, because there is safety in numbers. If you are alone, project an attitude of confidence, as if you are ready to take on anyone who challenges you. Always be aware of your surroundings, and take notice of anyone who appears out of place or seems to be loitering. Finally, always be aware of the nearest places you could run to for help if you needed it.

If you should be confronted by an attacker, your first line of defense may be to cooperate. If all he wants is your money, hand it over. No amount of money is worth jeopardizing your personal safety. If, however, it appears the confrontation is going to turn physical, fight vigorously to defend yourself.

This is where personal alarms come into play. Ear piercing screecher alarms are compact and portable, and will signal for help as well as scare off the attacker. A security spray such as pepper spray will temporarily blind your attacker, allowing you to run to safety, and a personal Taser will stun your attacker into submission.

Remember, the best form of defense is awareness, but if push comes to shove, there are many valuable personal protection devices that can help you escape and get to safety.

Making Your Attacker Cry

March 31st, 2008

One of the most effective personal protection devices available is a security spray, such as pepper spray or Mace. Security spray is compact, easy to carry, easy to conceal, and legal to possess almost everywhere. When packed properly, you can even fly with a safety spray provided it is in your checked luggage.

If you need to use your safety spray against an attacker, the results should bring him to his knees fairly quickly. Once you apply the security spray to the attacker’s face, his eyes should slam shut. They will feel like they are on fire. Any exposed skin that has been sprayed will begin to burn and may turn red, and the airborne particles will make your attacker hack and cough. Do not worry, though – none of the effects of any personal security spray are permanent. They will subside, but only after you have made a hasty retreat.

Clever Ways to Carry Your Security Spray

The most important thing to remember with a security spray is to actually carry it with you. Safety spray cannot help you if you leave it at home.

Security sprays are packaged in compact canisters designed for discretion, yet big enough to pack a punch. The smallest canisters of safety spray are designed to attach to a keychain. Larger ones can be clipped on your waistband and hidden beneath a shirt or jacket. These insure you have your safety spray close at hand at all times.

More ingenious ways to carry security spray is with one of the devices disguised as an everyday object, such as the PepperPAGER. It contains two canisters of pepper spray which deploy simultaneously, giving your attacker a double dose of disabling safety spray.

A clever way for women to carry security spray is the compact Lipstick Pepper Spray. Disguised as a common tube of lipstick, this little device allows you to blast your attacker from as much as 10 feet away.

For the fitness-minded, the Hot Walkers are one-pound weights that each conceals a canister of powerful 10 percent pepper spray.

There are many convenient ways to carry personal safety spray in a variety of innocent-looking packages, yet these small but powerful devices will allow you to leave your attacker in tears while you escape.

Protecting Yourself Against Intruders

March 24th, 2008

As criminals become more and more brazen, it is just as important to be able to protect yourself inside your home as it is when you are away. No longer can we assume criminals will not try to invade our personal spaces while we are occupying them. This applies equally to your house or apartment, college dorm room, or hotel rooms.

Preventing an intruder from breaking in

Luckily there are several personal protection devices, such as wireless alarms that use infrared technology to detect motion, to ear piercing screecher alarms that can be used to signal for help, which are easy to use and affordable.

For protection at home, begin by keeping intruders where they belong – on the street. The dual function door security bar can be used to brace any door by placing it beneath the knob, or can be used as a stopper in the track of any sliding door. This portable device can easily be carried in a suitcase for use in hotel rooms. Using a dual function door security bar keeps your home secure, sending a would-be burglar packing.

Small, wireless alarms can be mounted easily on doors and windows to warn of an intruder trying to enter the home. Magnetic door and window alarms sense magnetic affinity, and will emit an ear piercing shriek if the magnetic connection is broken. Specially designed glass breakage alarms sense vibrations in the glass door or window and will sound before the intruder can get in. Wireless alarms can be used to protect any room, and infrared technology will sense any movement in the room, causing a deafening alarm to sound.

If an intruder gets inside…

A good wireless alarm should be enough to dissuade any intruder from entering your home, hotel room, or college dorm. If an intruder does sneak past your security system, though, there are a few things you should be aware of to protect yourself.

If possible, run outside and go somewhere safe, where you can call for help. If you fear the intruder may follow you, carry a small, portable alarm such as the ear piercing screecher alarm. When activated, the shrill blast is instantly recognized as a call for help and can be heard up to one-quarter mile away – enough to scare off any bad guy. Immediately head to safety and notify the police.

Stun Your Attacker so You Can Get Away

March 22nd, 2008

One of the latest personal safety devices gaining in popularity is the personal taser. These powerful weapons use energy to take over muscle control of your attacker, causing him to curl into a fetal position as his muscles contract uncontrollably.

A personal taser discharges two barbs, which are attached to the device with wires. Electricity is transmitted through the wires to the barbs. When you have deployed a personal taser against an attacker, and the barbs have embedded themselves properly, your personal taser will deliver a high-voltage stun to your attacker. In addition to shooting the barbs, most personal tasers also allow for a contact stun.

Taser Models

There are a couple of different models of Taser on the market today. The Taser M-18 is a powerful personal taser, delivering stopping power through the use of electro-muscular disruption, which allows for a higher rate of incapacitation than a 9mm handgun. Once deployed, the Taser M-18 will cause your attacker’s muscles to contract, bringing him to his knees while you escape.

The sleek yet powerful Taser C2 provides the same stopping power of the Taser M-18, but in a more compact and affordable package. The Taser C2 utilizes the same EMD technology, which will put your attacker into the fetal position and make him cry for his mommy.

Use of a personal taser has nearly a 100 percent effectiveness rating, especially those using the EMD technology. Even attackers who may have an unusually high pain tolerance cannot stand up to the powerful forces of the Taser M-18 and the Taser C2.

Taser Safety

While a personal taser provides you with a powerful means of delivering instant stopping power, they do not cause any long lasting harm to the recipient of the stun. Effects may last anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, but the personal taser is just as safe as it is effective.

In making your choice to carry a personal taser, check the laws where you live to ensure you can carry it legally. Taser laws vary from one location to another, but most areas in the United States allow citizens to use personal tasers for protection.

Attitude is Everything

March 20th, 2008

When it comes to self defense, your attitude is what makes the difference between escaping, fighting off an attacker, or becoming a victim. If you choose to carry a personal protection device, such as a personal taser, ear piercing screecher, or security spray, your mindset is what will determine your success when confronted with a potentially hostile situation.

Exercise Awareness

Your best line of personal defense is to constantly be aware of your surroundings. Not only will this alert you to danger sooner, but in the event of an attack, you will already be aware of which way to run to find help or reach a place of safety.

Always have a plan. As you go about your daily business, take the time to “what if” your situations. By having a prepared mental attitude, you will be ready to take action should an attack on you ever happen. If you are armed with a personal taser or security spray, think about how you would deploy that weapon most effectively.

Do Not Play Fair

If you are attacked, fight to win. There are no rules, so do not worry about playing by them. Your life may be in danger, so do whatever it takes to win. If you are carrying a personal protection device, such as the personal taser, use it with the mindset of disabling your attacker. Take him down, so you can escape. If you are carrying security spray, such as mace or http://www.spsafetycenter.com/pepperpager.htm, deploy it quickly, vigorously, and without hesitation.

Kick your killer instinct into high gear. If someone has tried to attack you, they intend to harm you. Turn the tables, and fight back with the intent to hurt your attacker. One of the best aspects of using a personal protection device such as the Taser C2 is that it not only provides powerful knock-down power that will cripple your attacker, but a 30-second timer allows the weapon to continuously stun your attacker while you run to safety.

If you choose to carry a personal protection device, security spray, or other weapon intended for personal safety, use it with the mindset of quickly and explosively taking your assailant out. Disable him, so he cannot harm you.
