The right lesson

A major problem facing the teachers in this era of information boom is how to keep values in tact which are necessary to make the children of today good human beings of tomorrow. According to S. Arora, principal of Bharati Public School, Swasthya Vihar, it is imperative for the teachers to have the ability to add to the curriculum things that are left out - compassion, love, harmony and togetherness. For the overall development of the child the teacher must use all possible techniques, methods and teaching aids.

A classroom should not be a place where a teacher comes and teaches, rather it should be an environment where learners come and learn, says Ms. Arora, a state award winner. "When one stops learning, one stops growing. When one stops growing, one stops". Therefore to make the learners progress, the teacher must also move forward on the path of progress. "We need to direct the minds of our children from scandals and scams towards basic human values like kindness, truthfulness and dignity of labour," adds Arora.
