Isha Raiment

The Isha Foundation is organising an exhibition of clothes that is to be held at The Residency Hotel in the New Year. Proceeds from the sale are to go towards the Foundation's "Action for rural rejuvenation" project that provides free health care among other things to the thousands of underprivileged rural people in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. A fleet of mobile clinics serve over a thousand villages in this area.

Garments on display and sale at the exhibition are made exclusively with natural fibres like pure silks, crepes and cottons. They are embellished with embroidery, block prints and hand painted motifs. The idea is to blend traditional arts and handwork from different parts of rural India with modern designs. There will be outfits that will appeal to the contemporary as well as those with ethnic tastes.

The exhibition will be held in Hotel Residency at its banquet hall on January 3 and 4. The event will be open to the public between 9 a.m. and 10 p.m.
