NEW RELEASE: Dada f/ Sandy Rivera & Trix "Lolipop"

brain freeze Although I've never been very good at parsing innuendo, I'm pretty sure the refrain "I lick your ice cream and you can lick my lollipop" ain't about sharing a malted and some candy at the soda shop. The video for this dance cut by Dada featuring Sandy River and Trix comes in two flavors — with each using nearly identical green screen performance, but with different backgrounds. One version is a more graphical, while the other is, shall we say, more graphic. I prefer the latter, in which women fellate Popsicles and anything else remotely phallic. --> watch "Lollipop" in either clean or super suggestive versions

NEW RELEASE: Finger Eleven "Paralyzer"

Finger11_paralyzed Finger Eleven gets kinda funky with a rooftop performance in downtown L.A. while a dapper young man shimmies and slides along the streets below. The urge to groove soon spreads to everyone he comes near, including one woman who seduces through the language of dance. It's not Lambada, but it  should be forbidden.  --> watch "Paralyzer" at YouTube

VIDEO/CONTEST: Grahan Coxon "Standing On My Own Again"

Coxon This b&w performance video for former Blur guitarist Graham Coxon has been out for quite some time, but we've dug it up to coincide with a little CONTEST. The prize is a limited edition double 7" vinyl copy of "I Can't Look At Your Skin" and "What's He Got," with the B-sides "Time For Heroes" and "Outta My League, Dear." It's a nifty package with all the artwork done by Coxon himself. And, since we live in a digital age, we'll also throw in a copy of Coxon's Love Travels At Illegal Speeds CD. To enter, please send an email with your name and address to coxoncontest@videostatic.com. All entrants must be over 18 years old (sorry kids). We'll randomly select and notify the lucky winner on Tuesday, January 30 .

Graham Coxon Now, back to the video. It's a pretty simple affair, using nothing more than a large black border an occasional negative effect to enliven the performance. Simplicity, in my opinion, is usually a good thing, especially if the intended focus is on Coxon's ability to churn out an indie rock buzzsaw while channeling the spirit of vintage Elvis Costello. --> watch "Standing On My Own Again" at YouTube or in Real or  Windows Media

NEW RELEASE: The Kooks "Eddie's Gun"

Kooks Director Marco Sandeman brings some film stock and photo booth strips to life with performance by UK garage rockers The Kooks. Perhaps inspired by the still visible dividers between each individual frames, Sandeman also places The Kooks footage beneath train tracks and behind the glass panes of a London phone booth. -- watch "Eddie's Gun" in Quicktime, Real or Windows Media

NEW RELEASE: Corrine Bailey Rae "Put Your Records On"

Corrine Corrine Bailey Rae
"Put Your Records On" (Good Groove/Capitol)

Sam Brown, director | Jacob Madsen, producer | Flynn Productions, production co | Description: Although Corrine Bailey Rae is being embraced big time by such outlets as VH1 Soul and BET J, the singer has a potential appeal far beyond the neo-soul marketplace. This acoustic vibe of the song and especially Rae's scratchy, soulful voice has more in common with Feist and other singers associated with alternative or  trip-hop acts. The video is a simple, summery affair: Rae leads a pack of women on a bike ride before veering off into a field to enjoy a little bit of freedom and release. -- watch "Put Your Records On" in Quicktime, Real or Windows Media

NEW RELEASE: Annie "Chewing Gum"

Annie Annie "Chewing Gum" Big Beat/Atlantic
Barnaby Roper, director
Mark Houdini Murrell, producer
Flynn Productions, production co
Description: Scandinavian singer Annie seemed poised to conquer the United States with the stateside release of her 2004 album Anniemal. After all, she's a shamelessly poppy blonde bombshell who is still able to maintain her cred. After starting the U.S.  Anniemal campaign with a different single/video, Annie gets another shot here with the release of the smash that made her a star all across Europe. It's not hard to see why "Chewing Gum" enraptured listeners with its clever lyrics, candy sweet hook and electro beat. The video more than doubles the pleasure, if you will. Duplicates of the singer deliver the vocals to each other to mimic the lyric's structural device that is essentially a conversation with herself, while an ever increasing number of Annie multiples perform synchronized dance moves on a stage. -- Watch "Chewing Gum" in Windows Media

NEW RELEASE: The Subways "Rock & Roll Queen"

SubwaysThe Subways "Rock & Roll Queen" Sire/Warner Bros.
Paul Gore, director
Charlotte Woodhead, producer
Flynn Productions, production co
Description: The Subways add to the wreckage with this rampaging performance of "Rock & Roll Queen" in what looks like a big top that's been abandoned after a disastrous circus. The band's total abandon and aggressive style here, not to mention the blurred and slo-mo filmwork, is definitely reminiscent of some other punk-influences rock trio.
