Lost Planet: Colonies isn't a new game -- it's a (beefy) update!

The rumors and speculation surrounding Lost Planet: Colonies and what, exactly, it was going to be finally coalesced into something solid today as Capcom made an official statement confirming the title's future.

First, the semi-bad news. Colonies isn't a new game per say, it's actually more like Lost Planet 1.5 with a $30 price tag. Fans of the game will probably love the slew of new features that Capcom revealed today, including new characters, multiplayer maps and cross platform PC vs. Xbox 360 online play; but newcomers or those who wished Lost Planet remained lost after playing it last year will probably want to pass.

Game|Life has a full listing of the new features, but here's a preview of some of the highlights:

• Akrid Hunter - Get the chance to finally play as an Akrid as your opponents attempt to take you down.
• Lost Arena - The central arena is ideal for VS pilots to act as futuristic gladiators, while those on foot can use the surrounding grandstands as their battleground.
• Two female and two robot characters are added to the roster of choices for online personas to choose from, bringing the total to 11.
• New Environments: Choose from snowstorms, arctic winds and towering mountains of ice.
