Which Game Would You Unmake?

You're all so quick to tell us which games you'd love to see made, but how about unmade? Huh? Yeeeaa-aaahhh. Not so easy. If you had the chance to go back in time and unmake one game, which would it be? Warhammer Online dev Paul Barnett's asking the question over on his blog, and boy, it's a doozey. Do you pick one for the shitty genre it spawned? For spoiling a franchise you once held dear? For plain old major suckage? Me, I'm going for Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (Shenmue, you came second by *this* much, with Wing Commander Arena coming in third).

Fez Music Dude Makes Suda Remix!

All around nice guy Jason DeGroot isn't just one of the dudes responsible for Fez, he's also responsible for other things! He'll be adding his music stylings to the No More Heroes soundtrack in remix form. If you're not familiar with DeGroot's groovy retro music, check out the embedded link above. It's truly fantastic stuff. If you're not familiar with No More Heroes, well.

More On Machinarium

Loads of you seemed to dig Machinarium when we posted some stuff on it the other day, which is great. So here's some more. Hope you like it. The story revolves around a cute little unnamed robot, who's thrown out of his robot town, then has to stop an evil brotherhood from blowing up the leader of the town, all the while trying to rescue his girl-robot-friend. Gameplay-wise it'll be a textbook point-and-clicker, same as Samorost, although developer Jakub Dvorský says it'll be bigger and "much more complex". Oh, and yes, like I said last time, those screens are real: the entire game, animation included, is hand-drawn (new screen above). Loads more info, like what inspired the game, how it'll differ from Samorost and what else the Amanita Design team are up to, is at the link below.

Second PS3 SingStar On The Way?

Guess the SingStore's not as big a hit as Sony were hoping. That or they're just accommodating PS3 owners without an internet connection, because a listing's turned up on Aussie retail systems for "SingStar Vol. 2", which is apparently due in June. SCE Australia couldn't confirm the title's existence, though a rep did tell us that it's "feasible" SCEE's London Studio are working on expanding the franchise via another disc-based update. If this does turn out to be the case, here's hoping there's some new content on there, and it's not just a rehash of the PS2 versions. Or...if it is a rehash, that they at least throw Broken Wings in there.

Far Cry 2 Screens Show Killing, But Also Love

As you'd expect from a game that's selling itself on its ability to set loads of things on fire, in these new screens for Ubisoft's Far Cry 2, there's fire. And explosions. Big, murderous explosions. But also love, as a mercenary tries to carry his wounded brother-in-arms to safety, from where he can gently tend to his wounds and slowly, every so slowly, nurse him back to health.

Indiana Jones isn't racy, unless your son is really young. I thin I was about 10 when my father watched Raiders with me, and I'm well adjusted. At least, I like treasure and hate Nazis.

Don't Hate WipEout HD Because It's Beautiful

It's been a while since we've had our hands on WipEout HD, but if we ever had a bad thought about it, I wish we could take them all back. It's looking better and better every time the gang in Liverpool dishes out new media. A bit of a WipEout XL junkie back in the day, I simply cannot wait until this shows up on the PlayStation Store for a proper online race. The HD version at GameTrailers certainly does the whole more justice than the one above.

Yes, Guitar Hero : On Tour Is A DS Game

Was there ever any doubt Guitar Hero: On Tour was a DS version of the game? There was? Shouldn't be now: Australia's Office of Film & Literature Classification have just rated the game, and in the process blown its platform cover. It clearly says Guitar Hero: On Tour on the OFLC's site, and it clearly says Nintendo DS, with the game earning itself a G rating earlier this week.

The GameStop Super Smash Bros. Brawl Trophy

After reading the news yesterday morning, thousands of gamers across the country made plans to get up early on Saturday and head down to their local GameStop store to enter the gigantic, nationwide Super Smash Bros. Brawl tournament for a chance at prizes and glory. Now that they've seen the trophy the local winner receives, courtesy of Kotaku commenter Prguitarman GoNintendo reader Travisto, sleeping late is looking a bit more attractive. What is that, a High School wrestling trophy? Nothing says you kicked ass at a video game than an athletic young man in a tight singlet. You go, you local legend of wreckage!

UPDATE - PRGuitarman failed to tell us that the picture was taken by Travisto and submitted originally to GoNintendo. If you're going to send us a picture from another site, just send us the link. Thanks!

John Carmack

id Has Plans For iPhone Gaming

In a comment filed to Slashdot, id co-founder John Carmack says that his company is looking at iPhone development. Sega's on board, as are EA and Gameloft, and it appears we may be seeing an accelerometer controlled Orcs & Elves if Carmack has his way. Although Carmack apparently didn't have nice things to say about iPod dev tools, pissing of Steve Jobs, he was up on iTunes distribution and its 70% royalty rate.

"The ability to distribute larger applications than the over-the-air limits and effectively market your title with more than a dozen character deck name, combined with the reasonable income split make this look like a very interesting market," he says. We're sure John can knock up a solid Doom 3 engine over the weekend if need be.

Disgaea Gets Another Port

Another day, another Disgaea it seems. NIS America is readying another port of its PlayStation 2 strategy RPG Disgaea: Hour of Darkness, this time on the Nintendo DS. Sure, it's a fine game, but it looks like there's some wasted potential in the DS port—or at least wasted screen real estate. What may ultimately ship as Disgaea DS is planned for Summer and may appeal to folks who've never played the PlayStation 2 or PSP versions. It's not much to look at, but if you're somehow psyched for another go and find a handful of new features appealing, read the press release for maximum information.

Take 2 Urges Employee Calm, Promises Cash If EAten

Take-Two Interactive tonight disclosed an email they sent out to their employees about a change in their severance plan which was triggered, it appears, by Electronic Arts offer to buy them out.

The "Change in Control Employee Severance Plan" will give "minimum levels of compensation" to all employees in the event that they are fired as a result of a change in control of the company. While Take-Two goes to some lengths to point out that this has nothing to do with the possibility of a buy-out, they also note that the plan was created to address the "understandable concerns" that some employees have about the possibility of an EA buy-out.

We hope that this benefit will alleviate some of the concerns you may have, and allow you to remain fully focused on your responsibilities. You are critical to the success of Take-Two. The most important contribution each of us can make during this period is doing our jobs with the same focus, skill and creativity we always have.

We remain committed to open communication with all of you, and will continue to update you when and as we can.

Creativity is at an all-time high at Take-Two -- this is an incredibly exciting time for all of us and also for our customers who depend on us for cutting-edge innovation and the industry's most exciting games. We know we won't disappoint.

Sincerely,
Strauss and Ben

LOOK MUM I'M ON THE INTERNET! Oddities

Man Gets PlayStation 3 Tattoo For Some Bizarre Reason

A man who goes by the handle MobileTone, a reader of Sony's semi-official blog ThreeSpeech, has decided that permanently tattooing "PS3" on his right forearm was a good idea. Odd that he didn't go with the official typeface for the "world's first PS3 tattoo", but also quite understandable. I'm sure that PS3 text can be gracefully re-inked into something else, should he grow tired of it. The tattooed man says "I doubt i'll ever regret it" but speaking from the experience of having a 3DO tattoo on your left calf and never knowing the comfort of shorts for fear of ridicule, I'm fairly certain a tinge of regret will hit one day.

Pachter Rings True - 20GB Is Too Small

In reaction to the rumors spreading about a new Xbox 360 with a 60GB hard disk, super analyst Michael Pachter decided to take a break from using his immense powers of precognition to make a simple, obvious observation. 20GB is too small.

"I think the console [manufacturers] all misjudged the quantity of downloadable content and the opportunity to actually download meaningful content, and so what sounded like a good idea in 2003 or 2004 in the design stage with the 20GB hard drive on the 360 was just not sufficient. Frankly, the surprise to me is that the new SKU is [purportedly] 60GB. I mean, I would think they'd introduce a 200GB or 500GB and eliminate the 20GB and make the 120GB the standard cheapie one.
Brilliant idea, Michael! The only problem of course is that using standard Microsoft pricing, a 500GB hard disk would cost a million dollars, give or take. Persoanlly I'd rather they just let us use our own, but that's just me.

New Gigantic StarCraft II Screens

The latest StarCraft II Q&A; has hit Battle.net. While that generally means a slew of answers regarding unit abilities that uberfans will pore over with a fine tooth comb and many, many "we're still debating that internally" responses, this time we get some fresh media. Four new screens, loaded with units and packed with pixels, have been released. No, there isn't a Zergling in sight, but they're just so pretty, we had to pass them on. The full Q&A; is right here if you're so inclined.
