Uldaman is a long and at times confusing instance, but it is the completion area for many important quests, and the location of the game’s only artisan level enchanting trainer: Annora.

Entrance

Uldaman is located in the far northern part of The Badlands, just south of Loch Modan. The closest Alliance filghtpath is in Telsamar, Lock Modan, while the nearest Horde filght path is in Kargath, in the Badlands.

The entrance to the mine is located in the back of the archeological dig site (coordinates 44,11).

There is a large area of the mine before the entrance of the instance, and some of the Uldaman quests are completed in this area.

If you haven’t started the Shattered Necklace chain you may want to kill a few dwarves outside of the mine until the necklace drops, then go to Ironforge and turn it in for the next stage of the chain.

Enter the mine and proceed down. You’ll soon see a room with a pit in the center. Make your way into the pit and down the passage you find there. In an alcove of this passage, next to a campfire, you should find Hammertoe Grez, who is involved with the quests Amulet of Secrets, Prospect of Faith, and A Sign of Hope. At the end of this passage you should see a large room. If you want to hurry into the instance, you can jump off the ledge in front of you and run up the stairs to your right, and into the instance.

If you have any of the quests that are need to be completed outside the instance, head to your right and down the ramp. Turn at the first left. You should see the passage branch right and left. On the left branch, behind several dwarven miners, you should encounter Magregan Deepshadow, who drops Hammertoe’s amulet, used in the quests Amulet of Secrets and Prospect of Faith.

In this same passage, if you turn right, you’ll encounter a room of troggs. Behind this room is a second room, with yet more troggs and large books on the floor. Here you’ll find the Tablet of Ryun’Eh which is used in the Solution to Doom quest.

Now you can head into the instance.

There is also a back door into the instance, located on a hillside to the southeast of the main entrance (coordinates 65,43). This door opens behind the Obsidian Sentinel, so you must either kill or sneak around him. This door is a convenient way to avoid respawns that may appear near the front of the instance, and to avoid the mines in front of the instance main door. If you’re going to Uldaman just to visit Annora, this door is an easier than the front door.

Instance

Once inside the instance (labled "1" on the map) turn to your left. You’ll encounter troggs in groups of two and three. The Trogg Oracles lay down healing or fire totems, so be sure to designate someone in your party to destroy these. Follow this passage around a “U” to a large room ("2" on the map). You don’t need to clear the entire room, only the right side, as the best way to continue is to exit out of the southwest corner. In this second hallway, keep going south into a passage. Soon you’ll see a room ("3" on the map) with troggs and some excavation equipment. At the far end of the room, up the embankment, you’ll find the three dwarves. If you’re Alliance, you’ll want to talk to them to complete The Lost Dwarves quest. If you’re Horde, kill them and take the book on the table for the Translating the Journal quest. Either way, don’t for get to pick up the Staff of Tsol, from the box on the table; you’ll need it later in the instance.

On the west end of this room is mini-boss Baelog and the topaz gem for the Shattered Necklace quest.

Back up to the hallway, and go west, then north into a large room ("4"). Just inside this room is Revelosh, an easy mini-boss, who drops the Gni’kiv Medallion. This will be used to summon one of the bosses later on.

North of this room is a passage with more troggs and the remains of a paladin ("5"), which is important in the Shattered Necklace quest. The western arch of the room leads to the map room ("6"), which should be cleared before you summon the next boss. Be aware that some of the troggs in this room are stealthed.

Once the room is cleared, give the Gni’kiv Medallion and the Shaft of Tsol to the same person and combine them together. This will create the Staff of Prehistory, which can be used in the center of the room (click on one of the buildings in the model city) to summon Ironaya. She uses an AOE push spell, which also injures everyone it hits.

Once Ironaya is dead, explore the room she came out of ("6A" on the map) to complete the quest The Hidden Chamber.

From the map room, take the passage that leads northeast. In this area you will encounter basilisks, bats, and scorpions. Have your AOE spells handy to deal with the scorpion mobs. If you keep turning right, you’ll find Annora (located at "7" at the map). While the enchanters in your party are talking to her, look for the locked chest in this area.

If you head north, then west, you’ll come to a large room ("8") filled with stone sentinels. Try to clear this room as best you can before you attack Ancient Stonekeeper.

Make your way west, then southwest and you’ll come to a room ("9") where the Obsidian Sentinel guards the back door of Uldaman. He also drops the Obsidian Power source needed for the Power in Uldaman mage quest. The sentinel summons minions who each have a spell reflection ability; parties who are heavy on spellcasters will have a hard time defeating him.

When you’re done with the Obsidian Sentinel, head north. You’ll encounter more mobs to keep you busy. Eventually you’ll encounter a room ("11") with Galgann Firehammer. You’ll also find the Tablet of Will here, along with the ruby gem for the Shattered Necklace quest.

Nearby, you’ll find a passage that leads to the northwest. Follow that passage long enough and you’ll come to another boss, Grimlok ("12"). He’s a Shamman, so be sure you have someone tasked to destroy his totems. He also has two elite troggs and a basilisk. Grimlock does the most damage out of the group, so you may want to focus on killing him first, and use whatever crowd control you have on his minions.

If you’re Alliance and doing the Shattered Necklace quest chain, be sure to loot the sapphire gem from the Grimlok’s corpse. Now would be a good time to use the the scrying bowl to contact Tavlash. You must do this before you encounter the final boss, Archaedas. This allows you to turn in the Find the Gems quest, and get the Restoring the Necklace quest. If you kill Archaedas before you get the Restoring the Necklace quest, the final quest item won’t drop, and you’ll have to come back and run the instance again.

Head west to the Hall of Crafters ("14") on the map. The mobs here are significantly harder than elsewhere in the instance. Keep fighting your way through the rooms and up the stairs.

Archaedas is the hardest boss in the instance. It’s recommended that most of your party be level 45 or above if you want a good chance of defeating him. As you enter his chamber, you may notice statues around the room that look like the various stone mobs you’ve encountered earlier in the instance. Once you awaken Archaedas by having three party members click on the altar. Archaedas will then appear and attack your party. Not too long into the fight he shoots a purple lightning bolt at one of the white statues in the room, and it comes alive and attacks. He activates one only one statue at a time, but you might not have enough time to kill it before he wakes the next one. The timing of when Archaedas activates the statues is based on his level of health, so the best strategy might be to have you main tank focus on Archaedas, and your back up tank (assuming your party has one) and DPS classes attack the minions. Later he starts activating the more the powerful black statues. Finally, he summons a pair of elite golems. Once Archaedas is dead, his minions will continue to fight, so they all have to be killed.

Once you’ve killed Archeadas, head into the room to the north. There you’ll see a hologram that will give you the The Platinum Discs quest. This hologram gives a long background story, if you’re not interested in it, you can quickly click through the dialogues and finish the quest. If you do want to read the story, you can either take screen shots of the dialogue and read it later, or let your friends hearthstone out of the instance. If you choose to walk out, remember to watch for respawns; Uldaman is a long instance, and it probably has been a while since you kill the mobs near the front door. Or you can exit out the back door near the Obsidian Sentinel.
