Stranglethorn Vale is a jungle peninsula which forms the southern tip of the Eastern Kingdoms. Once the home to a Troll empire, Bloodscalp and Skullsplitter Trolls still inhabit the ruins that remain. Jungle covers the entire peninsula, and it is filled with hostile gorillas, raptors, and tigers.

Transportation

Booty Bay has both Horde and Alliance flightmasters. It also has a boat that runs from the dock to the town of Ratchet.

Horde characters have the transportation hub of Grom'gol available to them. Here they can access either a flightmaster or a zeppelin to Origimmar or The Undercity.

Alliance characters also have access to a new (as of patch 2.3) flightmaster in the rebel camp on the northern border of the jungle.

The only road in the area goes north into Duskwood.

Towns and Settlements

Booty Bay

At the far southern tip of the continent is Booty Bay. This town, which clings to the cliff wall of a cove, boasts a bank, a neutral auction house, an inn, and two flightmasters.

Booty Bay is a neutral town where both Horde and Alliance are welcome. Peace is enforced by the Booty Bay Bruisers. If you attack anyone of the opposing faction, your character will be killed.

The Alliance flightmaster is located in the building to the east of the inn. The Horde flightmaster is on the west side of the inn, on the top floor. To get there go to the top floor, go out the balcony, then turn left.

A boat leaves from the northern dock every few minutes and travels to Ratchet.

If you happen to fall or jump into the bay, there is only one place where you can climb back out. There is a ramp going into the water in the center of the town.

Grom'Gol Basecamp

Grom'Gol is a horde town on the west coast of Stranglethorn Vale. There is a zeppelin that connects it with Orgrimmar and The Undercity.

The Rebel Camp

The Rebel Camp is a small group of Alliance soldiers in the northernmost part of Stranglethorn. It has several questgivers and a flightmaster.

Janeiro's Point is a small island just outside Booty Bay. The easiest way to get there is to jump off the Booty Bay dock and swim there.

Fishing Extravaganza

Every Sunday starting at 2 p.m. server time is the Stranglethorn Vale fishing competition. When it starts, there will be an announcement on the chat system. Schools of Speckeled Tastyfish will spawn in the water all along the coast. They don't spawn in rivers, lakes, or in Booty Bay.

The first player to catch 40 Tastyfish and turn them into Riggle Bassbait in Booty Bay wins. There can only be one winner per server, and that winner may choose either the Arcanite Fishing Pole (+35 fishing skill, the best fishing pole in the game) or the Hook of the Master Angler (trinket, increases swim speed and lets you breathe underwater).

On most servers the competition runs for around 25 to 35 minutes before someone wins. There is an announcement on the chat system when someone wins. Players who do not win can sell their Tastyfish to Riggle's assistant for 23 silver per stack of 5. Any Tastyfish you've caught disappear after the competition, so you might as well sell them.

If you want to win, you'll need to be prepared. You'll want a high fishing skill, at least 300, but 375 would be better. You'll also want several lures. You'll find more schools of fish if you have a mount. Any character below level 40 will have trouble with the various animals in Stranglethorn Vale.

There are also some rare fish that only spawn in Tastyfish school, so only appear during the contest. You can turn these into Riggle for special items:
