Hellfire Ramparts
World of Warcraft Instance Guide
Level Range: 60 to 62
Location: Hellfire Peninsula

Hellfire Ramparts is the lowest level instance in outlands, and the first Burning Crusade instance most players run. Although there are few quests that lead people into the dungeon, its short length and great loot make it the most popular instance in the Hellfire Peninsula.

The closest flight path for Alliance characters is Honor Hold. For the Horde, it’s Thrallmar.

Entrance

The entrance is in the Hellfire Citadel complex in the center of the Hellfire Peninsula. It’s often necessary to kill several Fel Orcs to get to the entrance.

Instance

Important safety tip: jumping off any ledge in the instance will kill your character.

As you enter, you’ll see a bridge guarded by two orcs. A third orc patrols the bridge and two more are on the opposite side. Pull the first two, then the patrol, then the two on the other side.

Past the bridge, you’ll see a long, wide hallway. The pulls here are orcs in groups of three or four. You’ll encounter different types of combatants; some melee, others ranged attackers and spellcasters. Hunters with warhounds patrol the halls, you can see them coming, but be sure to take them out separately from the other mobs.

After several pulls, the hall makes a turn to the right. Patrolling this area is Watchkeeper Garolmar and his two bodyguards. Pull the mobs standing around while he is at the far side of the hall to clear the area. You'll want to pull Garolmar back the hall, lest he aggro some of the mobs you weren't able to clear.

Don’t forget about the chest in this area.

Continue down the hall and up the stairs.

At the top of the stairs, you’ll see a mob of spellcasters in hallway. This is the hardest non-boss fight of the instance.

Continue fighting to the end of the hall. On the platform out side are a whole slew of mobs, including patrols that walk right up to the edge of the hallway. Pull the patrols and the other mobs far into the hall when you fight them.

As you clear the platform, you only have the two boss fights left. Don’t forget about the chest on the left side of the platform.

The first boss is Omor the Unscarred, a large demon. He has an AoE curse that deals shadow damage, so keep all but your melee attackers at maximum range. He has a shield that he uses when his health is low. He also summons felhounds that cast a silence spell.

Once you’ve killed Omor, head back across the platform. If you have any gear that gives you extra fire resistance, now is the time to equip it. You should see Vazreden the Herald flying his dragon above you. He has four guards. You can pull and kill the first two without any problems. When you finish killing the second group, Vazruden lands and attacks. Vazruden himself does melee damage while his dragon Nazan shoots fireballs from above. The fireballs do damage, and then burn on the ground. Anyone who stands in the fire takes massive damage over time, so it’s important to watch were you are standing and be ready to move if you’re in the flames. Once Vazreden gets low on health, Nazan lands and starts spraying fire. It’s important that your tank face Nazan away from the rest of your party, lest they be covered in fire.
