STMicroelectronics
|
Carlo
Bozotti was born in Noviglio, near Milan, Italy, in 1952
and graduated in Electronic Engineering at the University of Pavia
in 1976, having written his thesis on very high-voltage switching
transistors.
In 1977, Bozotti joined the high-voltage transistor development
laboratory of the Italian semiconductor manufacturer SGS-ATES.
In 1980 he moved to the Company's linear bipolar division and
by 1984 he was promoted to product manager for telecom, computer
peripherals, and automotive products. In this role, Bozotti pioneered
the market for the first smart-power devices, based on innovative
technology developed at ST and in which the Company is today a
world leader. With the creation, in 1987, of SGS-THOMSON Microelectronics
(now STMicroelectronics), he became responsible for the Telecom
Business Unit and subsequently he was promoted to Director of
Corporate Strategic Marketing and Key Accounts within the "Headquarter
Region" organization. In August 1991, he was appointed Corporate
Vice President, Marketing and Sales, Americas. While in the US,
Bozotti and his team were responsible for tripling ST’s
sales to US customers, bringing those sales to almost $1B.
Three years later, Bozotti returned to the Company’s headquarters
to become Corporate Vice President for Europe and Headquarter
Regions, overseeing sales in Europe, as well as sales to key customers
and strategic marketing worldwide. From 1994 to 1997, under his
leadership, the Company's sales in Europe grew 46% to $1.77B,
while those to strategic partners grew 124% to $1.26B. In July
1998, Bozotti took on a new responsibility as Corporate Vice President
and General Manager of the Memory Products Group, including the
Company's smart card operations. Under his leadership, ST became
recognized as a market leader in non-volatile memories and smart
card ICs.
Over the course of his career, Bozotti has contributed to forging
a number of strategic alliances with key customers in different
market segments, leveraging ST’s deep understanding of customers’
needs, flexibility, and cost competitiveness to provide winning
solutions to customers for mutual benefit. In doing so, he has
greatly contributed to, and influenced, the development of ST’s
business model of dedicating attention to Strategic Partners,
which has proven to be a key asset of the Company.
In March 2005, Bozotti was appointed as the Sole Member of the
Management Board and President and Chief Executive Officer. Bozotti
also chairs the ST Corporate Executive Committee, comprised of
ten senior corporate executives in addition to the COO and the
CEO.
Bozotti is the President of the European Semiconductor Industry
Association (ESIA).
