Follow the adventures of six Yoshis as they search through sunny woods, dark caves, soaring mountains, steaming jungles, vast oceans and gloomy castles for the Super Happy Tree, which has been stolen by the dreaded Baby Bowser. Loosely based on the Super NES classic Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Story fully exploits the strengths of the world's most powerful game system. Yoshi can walk, run, swim, leap, flutter and fire his payload of eggs with unerring precision. The action takes place in storybook "pages" made up of bookmaking materials and other familiar textures, including cut-paper forests, denim clouds, inflatable plastic islands and stacks of colored spools. Yoshi's Story pioneers use of the Rumble Pak as a key element of the game-play experience, as you'll be able to feel invisible but treacherous currents when Yoshi swims through oceanic depths. Yoshi's Story features the precise and responsive control players have come to expect from a Miyamoto game. With a light touch of the Control Stick you can float on a leaf, ride a friendly dragon and tiptoe past a swarm of angry bees! [Nintendo]

Mischief Makers dropped some hints about what the N64 can do in 2-D, but Yoshi's Story pushes the boat out so far it''s run ashore on the other side ... but once you've got past the initial sense of ''ahh, isn''t that sweet'' it doesn''t take long before all that sugar rots your teeth and sets your stomach a-churning.

Where most titles stress the importance in challenge in completing a level, Yoshi's Story emphasizes challenge in exploration--something rarely done in two-dimensional games. While Yoshi's Story isn't Yoshi's Island II, it is another shining example of simple, unadulterated entertainment in gaming.

Not everyone is going to like Yoshi's Story. I do. It's Yoshi. It's easy, but it's fun.

In the short term at least it's fun, very good fun in fact, and excellent for those retro fans who are desperate for a 2D platforming fix. Just don't expect to be playing it a year from now.

IGN
Yoshi's Story is a fun game. At its best, the level design is right up there with the original Mario games and it impresses with innovative control, great graphics and original levels. But at other times, Yoshi is an unchallenging romp through levels that reek of recycled game ideas, derivative layout, and clueless enemies.

There's a pervading feeling of trying to keep yourself busy (almost like a cat playing with a mouse) than being kept on your toes by your foes.In the end, Yoshi's Story is good for a rental at best.

You may find that Yoshi's Story can be a wonderfully irresistible experience. It's like Super Mario Bros. 2 in that it's quite a bit different from the usual Mario fare. Many people loved Super Mario Bros. 2, whereas some didn't. That will be the case here as well.

Kyle F. gave it a9:
This game is a lot of fun, maybe not hard but it's really a lot of fun! Yoshi is awesome!

Matthew B. gave it a10:
Simple, unadulterated platforming goodness the likes of which only Nintendo seems to produce. And Kamura Y. if you were really a Yoshi fan, you wouldn't be calling this game childish. Apparently you missed the point.

Kamura Y. gave it a3:
Yoshi is my favorite Nintendo person, and that's why this game isn't a ZERO. This is game is so childish, it's unbelievable. 6 pages of 4-year-old happiness. Smiley hearts and singing Yoshis. Yoshi's Story: Disgusting.

Elonda R. gave it a10:
I've played this geme ever since i was 9 years old. now im 14 and i still play it.(or i would hwenever my friends weren't over at my house) its so fun and i love playing it. the music is so cool. i also like the cute sounds that the yoshis and shyguys make. i think everything about thid game is adorable, but its definately not anywhere near as fun as Yoshi's Island (one or two) I Love Yoshi!

Kelly K. gave it a10:

Jason K. gave it a10:
