The Pools Poll: The 4th place race
Rachel Wright26th February 2008
Life’s good for the Evertonian fans at the minute. Not only do they get to smugly look down at their neighbouring rivals following an excellent performance away to Manchester City but also they are rapidly becoming the Uefa Cup favourites.
The Keegan revolution is a little slow in starting, in fact it simply hasn’t got off the ground and I can’t help thinking if it was any other manager the Toon army would already be baying for blood. But, as Shearer insists, King Kev has the full backing the Newcastle board.
It almost says it all when a preview starts “Fulham have only produced 10 victory in this fixture’s 55 match history.” The most recent of those actually comes earlier than you’ll think; just back in October 2003 when the Cottagers produced an impressive 3-1 win at Old Trafford to finish just six places behind the Red Devils.
If The New Football Pools had run a poll at the beginning of the season asking who are the likeliest managers to get the boot this season, I sincerely doubt Jose Mourinho and Martin Jol’s names would have passed many lips.
