The Martyrs
Bureau was established on June 19, 1991 in accordance with
the Amiri Decree No 38. The purpose of the Bureau was to honour
the martyrs (of the Gulf War) and their families. The Bureau
perpetuates the memory of Kuwaits martyrs through various
activities and it looks after the welfare (social, educational,
legal and psychological) of their families.
Some activities that the Bureau undertakes
to keep the memory of the martyrs alive are naming streets,
public drinking water places, suburbs and parks after the
martyrs. Planting trees in their names, issuing
stamps in the memory of martyrs, organising charity projects
and holding cultural competitions are some other ways in which
the Bureau has ensured that the martyrs sterling contributions
to the nation are not forgotten. The Bureau also runs a Martyrs
Museum.
The Bureau is run by an administrative council comprising
a chairman and 10 other members through clearly defined departments
such as the Perpetuating Department; the Guidance and Family
Care Department; the Work Field Department;
Training and Development Department; Computer
and Information Centre; and the Activities Committee.
It follows a clearly defined procedure for
identifying a martyrs family, and the possible services
that can be provided to it. Sociologists help is sought
and taken at every step of this procedure, and the Bureau
ensures that every family is dealt with care and sensitivity.
