DualShock 3 Dated For US

We have more word from retailer conference Destination PlayStation: the DualShock 3—you know, that DualShock we've been waiting for since the PS3's launch—has gotten a US release date.

Set to launch April 15th for $54.99, it's slated to coincide with the release of GT5 Prologue. Oh yes, feel those engines roar through your controller and make your SIXAXIS-wielding friends envious...like they're just playing a video game or something.

UPDATE: Sony has confirmed all of this information. Press release on the jump.

XFPS Rate Up Adapter Is Available For PS3

While the PS3 is already pretty friendly to most mouse and keyboard setups, the XFPS Rate Up Adapter (formerly just for the Xbox 360) is a peripheral that allows you to remap SIXAXIS controls to your stubborn PC ways of old and control any game as you would a computer title. It's completely plug and play and supports 95% of keyboards and mice on the market. Wait, we just read this thing is $100. Seriously? Maybe you could justify the purchase when combined with a backward compatible PS3 that could add mouse control to PS2 titles. But we're betting that $100 would probably look better sitting somewhere inside your PC.

Want To Get a Boomerang PS3 Controller?

Anyone else kinda miffed Sony went with their "old" design for the Sixaxis? I was. I liked the look of the boomerang controller! If you're like me and wonder what using one would be like, you could do worse things than try this. If you can ever find one, that is. Spotted by Gizmodo in the seedy underbelly of CES, it's a dodgy Chinese PS3 controller that's taking the unique approach of knocking-off an unreleased prototype, rather than the final product. Which should at least get them some points for originality.

DualShock 3 Rumbles PS2 Games Just Fine, Thanks

Some of you may still be on the fence regarding the DualShock 3. You might be put off by the extortionate prices some importers are charging. You may find that, unlike the press shots which made it look lovely, in the flesh the white DS3 actually looks a bit...cheap. In other words, you need convincing! If this helps, know that the DualShock 3 has now been tested in the field of battle with PS2 games. How'd it do? Passed with flying colours.

DualShock 2, Now Fully Wii Compatible

The Wii is all about motion control. To get all French, it's the system's raison d'etre. Which makes this product, allowing non-waggling Dualshocks to be used on the system, a strange one. Almost as strange as packaging that features a saucy Wii...fairy godmother, I think, and a PaRappa cosplayer riding a Dualshock controller cord like a witche's broom. Almost.

The PlayStation Controller Transformer

Fully realizing that Hasbro's Transformers has almost nothing to do with video gaming outside of a handful of games of varying quality, I ventured into the Hasbro booth at Comic Con 07 for purely personal reasons. I was pleasantly surprised to see this particular Autobot, who I think is named High Score 100, oddly enough, with obvious nods to the PlayStation's DualShock controller. No? Would you believe a Mad Catz controller?

Part of the Real Gear Robots line, it's due to hit stores next month. The rest of the line transforms into things like watches, digital cameras, and other consumer electronics mainstays— even one that looks like a Bluetooth headset. I'll assume that one is a Decepticon. And a total dick.

Force Unleashed Site Shows Funny-Lookin Sixaxis

What's this? It's the controller chosen to adorn the PS3 version ofLucasart's Star Wars: Force Unleashed on the official site (enlarged for your convenience, dear reader). Notice how the left analogue stick and D-pad have swapped positions, and are now aligned in GameCube/Xbox fashion. Odd. Is probably a Photoshop cock-up, though you'd have to wonder why, or how, they'd get that wrong. Not like there's a shortage of reference material. Or actual photos of the thing. Another possibility is it's an accidental reveal of a new, redesigned, rumbling Sixaxis, though the "body" of the pad looks a little thin. Maybe. What is it? YOU DECIDE. [Thanks Byron!]

Dualshock Forced Upon PSP

Not pretty, but the possibilities are interesting. Inspired by the genius of Ben Heck, [F00 f00] at acidmods has grafted a dualshock onto his PSP. As it stands, it gives you more comfortable controls for your PSP (at the cost of, you know...portability). But in the future... this sucker is screaming for "homebrew". Like PS2 games. Rumble, dual-analogues, the works. More »

Sony: Whoops, Dualshock Not Sixaxis Won Emmy

OK, so I think we've finally gotten it officially cleared up. Earlier this week the Nation Academy of Television Arts and Sciences listed Nintendo and Sony as Emmy winners for "Peripheral Development and Technological Impact of Video Game Controllers." More »

Use Keyboard, Mouse, DualShock On Your 360

The Xbox 360 game pad is pretty sweet as is, but there are some folks who will settle for nothing less than keyboard and mouse controls for the first person shooters. I am one of those people. I also happen to really like the PS2's DualShock. More »
