Burnout Paradise DLC Won't Lock Out Cheapskates

Speaking with MTV, EA have taken the unusual step (at least for them) in assuring Burnout Paradise players that future DLC for the title won't split the online community between those who opt to buy the DLC and those who don't. Issuing a written statement, they explain:
It's our intention to extend the life of Burnout with additional DLC in the near future. As mentioned, we don't want to split the online community between those that have content and those that don't. Our intention is to offer both free and paid for DLC in a way that enables everyone to 'see' the content, even if they have not paid for it.
They wouldn't elaborate on what exactly that meant. Which means I'm just going to speculate that they'll open up new areas of the map for you to drive around, but unless you pay for the DLC, you won't be able to trigger any of the events contained within.

Criterion Explains Burnout 360 Hard Drive Requirement

On Criterion's site, they just posted a somewhat long explanation of why they couldn't bring Burnout Paradise online play to Xbox 360 owners who don't have the optional hard drive. Essentially, it boiled down to preserving the game or preserving some of the audience. And Criterion chose the game. more »

Hey. Burnout fans. Wake up. The demo for Burnout Paradise just turned up on Xbox Live. It's 835MB, and it'd be great if any silver account holders could try downloading it, see if you're really going to get shafted or not.

Burnout Paradise Coming Jan 22

Names like Gran Turismo and Forza make for some great racing simulations, but many of us are just plain bad people who have no interest in racing in the real world and its subsequent simulations. Many of us just want to go fast, and maybe kill some other drivers in the process. Well our day is coming on January 22nd, when Burnout Paradise will be released for PS3 and Xbox 360. And until then, I'd appreciate anyone who sympathized with this post to drop your keys off at Kotaku HQ.

Burnout Goes Mobile

Blazingly-fast speeds, spectacular, gut-wrenching crashes, top-notch music and amazing multiplayer action. These elements define EA's Burnout series. These elements are also hardly ever used to describe mobile phone games, so I am a little wary when I hear EA announcing that Burnout is coming to the mobile platform . The as of yet untitled game promises all the speed and excitement of the console versions when it is released this August, though I cannot imagine it being anywhere near comparable. Then again my phone only plays Bejeweled, so what do I know?
"With Burnout in your pocket, you can tap into the adrenaline fuelled excitement of fast and reckless driving at the push of a button no matter where you are," said Javier Ferreira, VP European Publishing, EA Mobile™. "The game is incredibly easy to get into and enjoy, whether you're a racer at heart or prefer to stick to the Highway Code."

Burnout Paradise

You've got to hand it to Criterion. They know what we like about Burnout, and they know that giving us a couple of minutes worth of it is enough to activate any glands you may moisten when you get excited about fast cars crashing into shit.

Burnout Ad Deemed "Irresponsible" In UK

A advertising poster for Electronic Arts PS2/PSP title Burnout Dominator has been labeled "irresponsible" by the UK's Advertising Standards Authority. Thirty-seven complaints were filed regarding the ad, which featured a wrecked car surrounded by broken glass with the slogan "Inner peace through outer violence." According to an ASA spokesperon;

The complainants described the advert as offensive as it condoned and was likely to encourage violence, dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour such as vandalism... The Advertising Standards Authority determined that the implication of the advertisment was likely to cause serious or widespread offence.

Electronic Arts said the ad wasn't condoning violence, but is going to change to ad to comply with the ASA. What's more, the ASA also recommended that in future EA get advice regarding its ads. The game was released earlier this spring, and I haven't seen this poster and couldn't find it online. It doesn't sound so bad. Are people really that uptight? more »

Burnout 5 To Use HD Eye Toy, 360 Vision

Criterion's Alex Ward has revealed that the upcoming this-gen Burnout game, Burnout 5, will be making use of the PS3's (so we'll presume the HD Eye Toy is coming along nicely, then) and 360's camera peripherals.

How you use the controller is key, how you play the game online, how you use the HD Eye Toy and the 360 Vision Camera online is really important.

That's a meaty sentence: Sixaxis waggle CONFIRMED, camera use CONFIRMED. Though I'm a little sceptical about just what the camera's are going to be used for while racing online. I hate listening to whiny American teenagers, let alone watching them, so they better not be making camera use some big, important "must-have" feature of online play. more »

EA's Burnout Bandslam

EA is teaming up with Virgin Records and MySpace.com to hunt for the hottest unknown music artists in the EA Burnout Bandslam competition. From now until March 14th, hopeful bands and artist can upload their song to the MySpace page for the contest, submitting themselves to the jibes and ridicule of over 80 million MySpace users worldwide, as well as countless sexual predators. The top winners in both the US and Europe will receive a demo contract with Virgin and a chance to have their music appear in a future Burnout game, while the runner-ups get a sweet-ass Les Paul guitar. more »

Burnout Next-Gen Screens

The kids at Operation Burnout ("The number one place in the world for everything Burnout"!!!) have some fresh media of the next gorgeous, spark-drenched driving game from Criterion. Intercooler's Cruel Irony

You may have heard the rumors going around about the Nyko Intercooler. What was meant to help your Xbox 360 from overheating is actually causing it's own kind of burnout. Reader Ben M. sends in these pictures of the Intercooler he bought for his system along with the horror story of what happened when he put it in use.

As you can see, this product, although a great idea and it actually works, can be a serious fire hazard. Just check out what it did. Not to mention it melted one of my Xbox360 power connector covers which is still inside the Intercooler. Burnt, may I add.
