General table of the Indigenous peoples in Brazil

Observations:

1 - The Tupi Guarani, Awetí, Munduruku, Mawé, Tupari, Arikem, Mondé, Ramarama and Juruna linguistic families are part of the Tupi Branch. The Jê, Maxakali, Krenak, Yatê, Karajá, Ofaié, Guató, Rikbaktsa and Bororo linguistic families are part of the Macro-Jê Branch. (see Diversity). Peoples that speak Portuguese are those who have suffered linguistic losses and/or are emerging identities.

2 – The numbers of this list are approximate due to various problems with the Census, especially in the cases of the ethnic groups who are spread in more than one land, whose Censi were carried out at different times and by different institutions.

3 - Apalai and Wayana: even though they are distinct ethnic groups, the Census has problems because of the high incidence of intermarriage.

4- The Guarani, Kayapó, Maku, Nambikwara, Tiriyó, Waiwai and Yanomami peoples were counted together, despite the differences among them.
