Indigenous organizations

Indigenous associations and organizations began to appear, in different regions of Brazil, in the 1980s. But it was only after the 1988 Constitution was promulgated that they multiplied, thanks to the possibility of such associations to be constituted as legal entities.

Such new forms of political representation mean the incorporation, at least by some Indigenous peoples, of mechanisms that make possible dealing with the institutional world of the national and of international societies. They also make possible to take care of territorial (land demarcations and control of natural resources), assistance (health, education, transportation and communications) and commercial (placement of products in the market) demands.
