Oscar Winners
Since 1959, the Oslo Skoiteklubb (OSK) has awarded the Oscar-statuetten, in memory of the legendary Oscar Mathisen, for the best skating performance in the past season. Races considered for the trophy are European Championships, World Championships, Olympic Games, World Cups and international races held in Norway. In the past, country matches involving Norway were also included.
A list of Oscar winners is included below. It should be noted that until 1967, a skater could not win the award more than once, which meant that famous perfomances such as Johannesen's Olympic 10000 m in 1960, or Nilsson's World Championship in 1963 were not rewarded with an Oscar. Women were not eligible to win until 1987; the first female winner was Bonnie Blair in 1992.
