The State of Kuwait is a responsible member of the world community.
Its foreign policy and its relations with other nations are based
on mutual respect for each others sovereignty and mutual
cooperation in combating all kinds of forces that seek to disrupt
peace and harmony around the world. It supports the United Nations
in its endeavours to promote world peace and cooperation. Worldwide
support for Kuwait during the harrowing days of Iraqi occupation
bears testimony to its relations with the United Nations and with
the international community that believes in righteousness. Operation
Desert Storm was an American led multi-national military effort
of unprecedented magnitude: 690,000 troops from 18 countries,
185 warships, 1,000 combat aircraft. Kuwait reciprocated these
sentiments and support by offering unflinching protection and
refuge to foreigners (American, British, Europeans) under threat
of being used as human shields by the Iraqis.
Kuwaits foreign relations operate at several levels - the
Gulf level through the Gulf Cooperation Council; at the Arab level
under the Arab League and at the international level through the
United Nations and Kuwait Embassies around the world. At all levels,
its policy is governed by the principles of mutual respect, fairness
and brotherhood. To quote HH the Amir, Kuwait lives Islam
as religion, Arabism as a home, cooperation as a way, foreigners
as a symbol, brotherhood as a light, consultation as a policy,
justice as a balance, development as a responsibility and peace
as a goal.
