At the Gulf level, in its role as a member of the Gulf states,
Kuwait with other Arabian Gulf countries formed the Gulf Cooperation
Council (GCC) in 1981. The Council epitomises the spirit of brotherhood
and cooperation that exists among the Arab states.
The aim is to intensify efforts and to broaden cooperation among
its members in every field in the interest of the Arab nation
as a whole. The GCC operates within the general framework of the
Arab League and it continues, complements and completes the agenda
of the Arab League. Kuwait and the rest of the GCC countries,
in consultation and coordination with Egypt and Syria, works towards
the vision and dream of boosting Arab National Security under
the Damascus Declaration. Kuwaits Army is an active member
of the Peninsula shield force which is the joint force of the
GCC. At the Arab level, Kuwait seeks to enhance and justify its
relations with other Arab states in all fields.
Recent efforts towards the unification of the GCC at all levels
have found a proactive advocate in Kuwait.
